Quiet Ceremony Unites Miss Audrey
And Mr. George Head, Jr.
At a ceremony marked by sim
plicity, Miss Audrey Belle Jerni
gan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wil
liam Harvey Jernigan of St. Louis,

formerly of Montgomery, became
the bride of Mr. George Daniel Head
Jr. on December 25th, at high noon
at the home of the bride’s uncle and
aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Rogers,
in Montgomery.
The couple entered unattended
and stood before an improvised altar
banked with Christmas greens and
palms with pairs of branched can
delabra holding burning white
tapers.
The Rev. C. E. Grey, pastor of
the Capitol Heights Presbyterian
church and close friend of the bride’s
family, officiated using the impres
sive ring ceremony.
||> The bride wore a one piece dress
of sheer wool of the new Shore gold
chlor, her hat being an off-the-face
model of black velvet, and her ac
cessories matched. A corsage of
Talisman roses and valley lilies com
pleted the costume.
Betrothal Of Miss Butler, Mr. James
Finley Announced Sunday, Dec. 29
Jackson friends are deeply inter
ested in the announcement of the
engagement of Miss Nancy Butler
of Akron, Ohio, and Mr. James Dan
ielly Finley of Akron, formerly of
Jackson.
Miss Butler is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Frederick Washburn But
ler. She attended Connecticutt Col
lege for Women and is a member
of the Akron Junior League.
Mr. Finley is the only son of Mr.
A. C. Finley and the late Mrs. Fin

WILLOW VALLEY DAIRY
An informal reception was held
immediately following the ceremony.
The bride’s table was overlaid with
a Point d’Esprit lace cloth and cen
tered with a tiered wedding cake,
topped by a miniature bride and
groom. Crystal candle sticks held
white tapei’s.
Garlands of smilax with numerous
white tapers formed artistic deco
rations throughout the reception
rooms.
Mrs. Head is an attractive bru
nette and a graduate of Lanier Col
lege of Montgomery. Her only sis
ter is jMrs. Irvin N. Peak of Mont
gomery.
Mr. Head is the elder son of Mr.
and Mrs. G. D. Head Sr. and is a
graduate of Jackson High School
and of the Georgia Military College
at Milledgeville. His only brother is
Stuart Head, student at U. S. Naval
Academy at Annapolis. Mr. Head
is affiliated with the H. L. Green
Corporation of New York, being the
asssitant manager of Silver’s in Ma
con, where they will reside.

bama. He is grandson of Mrs. J.
M. Finley and the late Mr. Finley,
who were long tiitte residents of
Butts county. He is a graduate of
Georgia Tech and a member of the
Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He is
now with the Firestone Tire and
Rubber Company. His only sister
is Miss Elizabeth Finley of Jackson.
The date for the wedding will be
announced later.
SMITH-RIDGEWAY
The marriage of Miss Doris Smith
of Monroe county and James H.
Ridgeway of the Towaliga communi
ty took place December 24, with Dr.
Ben Ingram officiating.
The bride is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Gray Smith of Forsyth
and Mr. Ridgeway is a son of Mr.
and Mrs. S. P. Ridgeway of Jack
son, well known residents of Butts
county.
HOLDER-CAPPS
The marriage of Miss Corine
Holder of Henry county and Mr.
J. W. Capps of Jenkinsburg took
place on December 14. The cere
mony was performed by the Rev.
E. F. Martin.

Wed At Christmas Rites In Macon
Miss Sara Farrar and Levi Henry
Hurt Jr. of Athens were married at
12 o’clock yesterday afternoon in the
rectory of St. Joseph’s church.
The Rev. Peter McDonnell per
formed the ceremony in the presence
of the families and a few friends.
The bride is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Farrar and the
groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
L. H. Hurt of Jackson.
The bride wore a soldier blue
dress with a rose hat and gloves and
a corsage of orchids and valley li
lies.
Following the ceremony Mr. and
Mrs. Farrar entertained with a small
reception at their home on Vineville
avenue. Receiving were the bride
and groom, the bride*s parents and

The marriage of Miss Mary Ada
Spencer and Mr. John Calvin Fish
was solemnized Sunday afternoon,
December 22 at 5 o’clock at the
Baptist church in Milner. Dr. Ben
Ingram performed the ceremony •in
the presence of a few friends.
The bride chose for her wedding
costume a lovely model in neutral
green crepe. Her accessories were
black.
Mrs. Fish is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. George Spencer. Her sis
trs are Mrs. O. R. Mullins of Thom
aston, Mrs. A. J. Swafford and
Mrs. Jesse Lunsford of Atlanta and
Miss Jo Spencer of Jackson. Her
brothers are Messrs. James Spen
cer of Norfolk, Va., Homer Spencer
of Portsmouth, Va., A. G., Ponder
and Tommie Spencer of Jackson.
She is an attractive young wo
man and attended college at G. I.
C. in Barnesville and is popular in
religious and social activities.
Mr. Fish is the youngest son of
Mrs. N. N. Fish and the late Mr.
Fish. He is the brother of M. K.
Fish of Vidalia and Mesdames F.
L. Couch and H. E. Cook, both of
Macon, and Grady Polk of Johnson
City, Tenn.
He finished his education at the
Monticello schools and is popular
with the younger set. For the past
several years he has been employed
by Jordan Manufacturing Company
in Monticello. The young couple
will reside near Monticello.

L. HICKS MARRIED
SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Jackson friends are interested in
the marriage of Miss Julia Wester
of Abbeville and Mr. Robert L.
Hicks of Cordele, which took place
at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon at
the Methodist parsonage with Rev.
J. C. Callaway officiating. The
bride wore an afternoon dress of
dusty rose with hat and accessories
of black, and a black fur coat.
Immediately after the ceremony
Mr. and Mrs. Hicks left for a wed
ding trip to North Carolina. Previ
ous to their marriage they were
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Franklin. Mr. Hicks formerly was
manager of the market in the Jack
son A&P Store. They will reside
in Cordele.
WILLI AMSON-HOARD
The marriage of Mrs. Myrtle Wil
liamson and Dan Thomas Hoard
took place on December 28. The
ceremony was performed by the Rev.
Fred W. Cox.
The bride is a daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Cliff Johnson and the
groom is a son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Frank Hoard. They will reside
at Pepperton where they are receiv
ing the congratulations of their
friends.

After the reception the couple
left on a short wedding trip.
Decorations in the Farrar home
for the reception were appropriate
for the day. Smilax and holly were
used and over the table which held
the bride’s cake silver and white
bells showered from a smilax wreath
ed chandelier. The cake was elabo
rately embossed and was flanked by
white candles.
Mrs. Williard Deas, sister of the
groom, assisted in entertaining.—

PARTIES FOR COLLEGE
SET MAKE THE HOLIDAYS
MERRY
The boys and girls at home from
college have been having good times
while they are at home for ten days
or two weeks “relaxation period.”
On Saturday afternoon Miss Mary
Mallet and Miss Josephine Sasnett
entertained a group of college girls
at the home of the former. Cars
and various other games were en
joyed. Sandwiches, coffee, fruit
cake and Christmas goodies were
served. Mrs. Mallet and Mrs. Sas
nett assisted the young hostess.
Monday evening, Miss Irma King,
University of Georgia student, en
tertained at a delightful supper
party, and on Tuesday evening, Miss
Roslyn Redman, home from Atlanta
for a week, was hostess at an en
joyble dinner party. A number of
informal gatherings dotted the so
cial calendar, groups gathering any
time of the day and most any time
of the night at some home for a pe
riod of fun and good cheer.
JACKSON GARDEN CLUB
HAS CHRISTMAS PARTY
On Friday evening, December 27,
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. P.
Settle, the members of the Jackson
Garden Club held their annual
Christmas party, inviting their hus
bands as honor guests.
What one might call the main
feature of the evening was the
sumptuous turkey dinner served
early, after which a variety of “cra
zy games” were played, and prizes
of intrinsic value were given the
winners.
The lovely home was never more
beautiful than at this time when
Christmas decorations in charming
arrangement were evident every
where.
The members and their guests vo
ted this as “the best time yet.”
CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR
GARDEN CLUB MEMBERS
Mrs. J. L. Whitaker and Mrs. H.
C. Brooks entertained the members
of the Jenkinsburg Garden Club
with a lovely Christmas party Fri
day afternoon at the home of Mrs.
Whitaker. The living room where
the guests assembled for a game of
Hearts and Chinese Checkers was
brightly decorated. A Christmas
tree with gifts for each one was
greatly enjoyed.
Mrs. E. K. Huie, Mrs. C. B. Har
ris, Mrs. F. W. Childs and Miss Tru
die Moore were awarded the prizes
for high and low score in the games.
Delicious refreshments of salad,
coffee and cake in Christmas col
ors were served by the hostesses.
UDC WILL MEET
The UDC chapter will meet Thurs
day, January 9 at 3 p. m. at the
clubhouse. This is the first meet
ing of the new year and all mem
ber’s are expected to attend.
FIDELIS CLASS HAS CHRISTMAS j
TREE AT MRS. ALLEN’S
On Christmas Eve the members
of the Fidelis class of the Baptist
church had a most enjoyable party
at the home of Mrs. H. L. Allen Sr.
on East Third street.
Contests were enjoyed and a
Christmas tree was a delightful fea
ture, each member having previous
ly drawn a name to attach to her
present. The class presented a lovely
Bible to Mrs. 0. B. Howell, the
teacher, and a string of pearls to
Mrs. Allen, who is president of the
class.
A salad course and fruit punch
was served. The favors were tiny
bright colored baskets filled with
salted nuts and candies.
Mrs. L. H. Hurt, Mrs. Howard
Rooks, Mrs. O. B. Howell, and Mrs.
Ja'ck Jackson assisted Mrs. Allen in
entertaining the sixty guests.
STARK CLUB MEETS
The Home Demonstration Club of
Stark community met Dec. 19 at
the home of Mrs. Lucy Wyatt. The
meeting was in charge of the pres
ident, Mrs. Hilton Cawthon. Mrs.
Fred Morgan gave an interesting
sketch of the city of Bethlehem.
Christmas pieces were read by Mrs.
Hilton Cawthon, Mrs Jim McMichael
and Mrs. Elmer Britt. There was
a discussion on home Christmas
decorations. Miss McGoogan urged
members to take their sewing ma
chines to the machine clinic in Jack
son January 13. Mrs. Elmer Britt
was elected reporter and secretary
for 1941 in place of Mrs. Grady

CLUB TO MEET

The regular January meeting of
the WCTU will be held Friday af

COUNTY LINE WMS MEETS
The County Line Missionary So
ciety met Dec. 18 at the home of
Mrs. T. R. Sims for an all day ses
sion. A Christmas program was
enjoyed, and a Christmas tree held
presents for all the guests. The
next meeting will be held on Jan.
8, with Mrs. P. A. Allen.

MACEDONIA WMS MEETS
The Macedonia WMS met Decem
ber 11 for the monthly business and
program meeting. The meeting was
presided over by Mrs. A. A. White,
and was opened by singing WMS
hymns and prayer. The program
was in charge of Mrs. Asa O’Neal
and the topic for the month was
Pressing on Through Difficulties.
The Bible study was given by Mrs.
O’Neal who read passages from
Matt. 2 and Heb. 12 and commented
on Looking unto Jesus.
A brief business session followed
the program in which the work of
the year was rounded up and some
plans were made for the new year.
BARNES-WILSON
The marriage of Miss Willie Ruth
Barnes and Horace Copeland took
place at the home of Rev. T. J.
Thaxton, who performed the cere
mony. The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Barnes and the
groom is a son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. B. V. Wilson, residents of Butts
county.
