to know' that Rev. J. C. Callaway,
former pastor of the Jackson Meth
odist church, is now at Emory Uni
versity Hospital for treatment.
Miss Lucile Akin left several days
ago to attend the national PTA con
vention in San Antonio, Texas.
While away she will visit in Mexico
and other places of historic interest.
Lieut. Carl R. Hamil, now sta
tioned at Fort Benning for a three
months training courses, spent the
weekend with Mrs. Hamil who is now
visiting her mother, Mrs. J. L. Flet
cher.

Mrs. E. J. Williams is expected to
arrive home tonight from New Or
leans, where she visited the family
of her son, Mr. James Williams. She
was called home on account of the
serious illness of her sister, Mrs. J.
M. Currie.
Miss Elise Barnes, who teaches in
the Norcross public schools, has been
elected as a member of the faculty
of the Elberton schools for next
year. Miss Barnes spent the week
end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Gordon Barnes.

been at Ft. McClellan for the last
six weeks left Friday for “parts
unknown.”

Dr. H. T. Strickland, with the
rank of major in the Dental Corps,
Fort Jackson, spent the weekend with
his father, Mr. R. G. Strickland, in
Monroe county. Friends of Mr.
Strickland regret to know of his
illness.
Bert Kinrad of Macon, formerly
of Jackson, has been made a cap
tain in the U. S. Army and will re
port May 11 to Dayton, Ohio, ac
cording to information received here.
Mr. Kinard has been in the insur
ance business in Macon for the last
few years.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Mays have
cause to feel proud of their soldier
sons, Robert and Billy. Robert is
now a first lieutenant with the 30th
Division and has been transferred
form Fort Jackson to Camp Shelby,
Miss. Billy serving as a second
lieutenant for sometime has been
promoted to first lieutenant with the
30th Division at Fort Jackson.

Cadets Whitney and Stan Smith,
stationed at Cochran Field, Macon,
spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
L. J. McMichael.
Fletcher Fincher, U. S. Navy,
spent a three-day furlough with his
mother, Mrs. E. A. Fincher, over the
weekend. This was Mr. Fincher’s
first visit home in twelve years. Dur
ing his service he has served on both
the Atlantic and Pacific coasts and
many parts of the world. Friends
gave Mr. Fincher a cordial welcome.
Mr. and Mrs. John K. Wise have
received information that their son,
Walter V. Wise, has been transfer
red from Long Beach, Calif., to Fort
Lewis, Washington. He is now at
tached to U. S. Army Antitank unit,
160th Infantry, as first class gun
ner. Before enlisting Mr. Wise took
the defense school course in Jack
son and Hampton.
Lieut-Col. G. E. Mallet, post head
quarters, Fort Jackson, is spending
several days with his family here.

ta Morgan, in Atlanta.
