THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1952 Howard Perdue Asks Election As Court Clerk Howard Perdue announced Satur day and qualified as a candidate for Clerk of Butts Superior Court in the primary of March 28. His entry is the second for that office, Homer Cald well having previously qualified. Mr. Perdue is one of the county’s well known citizens. He is a veteran of World War II and takes an active interest in veterans affairs. He i3 a successful farmer and is actively interested in all movements for the advancement of the county. Mr. Per due is a member of the Jackson Ki wanis Club. He is interested in re ligious activities and a song leader of recognized ability. He has lived here all his life with the exception of time spent in the armed forces. Mr. Perdue stands high in the es teem of his fellow citizens, has a host of personal and political friends who will be glad of this opportunity to accord him loyal support for the office he seeks. They were telling a throbbing populace just what they could do to save the county and state, and the groups were taking it all in . . . The H. 0. Balls are back from a delightful trip to Florida and Nas sau, and now they have Europe on their minds .... Bob Ripley died too soon. Here’s another “Believe It Or Not” story. Mrs. Rebon Maddox dressed a hen the other day and the liver weighed an honest-to-goodness pound. Now what do you think of that? . . . When Barry Jones got paid off for being a Senate page for a week, the clerk took out two and one-half dollars withholding tax. He was shocked and turned to his asso ciates who hadn’t yet experienced the squeeze and said, “Just think, they took out $2.50 just for noth ing.” That is the same idea a lot of other folks have, too . . . The H. M. Moores are having a delightful trip in Florida this week. They visited in Jacksonville, Gainesville, Geneva, where Jackson’s beloved Nortons spend the winters, and on to Sarasota where they are attending the Water Carnival which is more or less a jun ior Mardi Gras. The mayor of Sara sota is a cousin to Mrs. Moore which insures them a place in the Mayor’s Box at the coronation festivities when the King and Queen will be crowned on the last day of the Car nival . . . The word “Acres” figures in the names of two pretty country places not far from Jackson. The Frank L. McCoys have named their place on the Worthville Road “Grey stone Acres” while the Jimmy O’Neals have given their country home the glamorous sounding name, “Lazy Acres,” which might symbo lize freedom from work . . . Jackson can boast of a versatile Presbyterian minister. Kirk Nesbit of the Jackson and Fellowship churches can wield a hammer and saw and a paint brush just like a veteran. He contributed much of the labor on the redecora tion of the Jackson church, and is now laboring on the new Sunday school rooms at Fellowship. Then, too, he is a fine entertainer and has been given thunderous applause on several monologues at different gatherings. His members like to chide him telling him when he gets tired of preaching he can take up night club entertaining . . .
