Tips on Fashion
Given By Expert
From New York
On a recent visit to Georgia, Mrs.
Janie Scott, representative for Sim
plicity Pattern Company, New York,
gave her definition of a truly fash
ion-wise woman. Speaking to home
demonstration agents and club mem
bers Mrs. Scott said, “ A smart wom
an will read and study the fashion
aiagazines, but when she chooses
etothes for herself she studies her
twn face and figure to determine
bow best to adapt current styles so
that they ‘do the most for her.’ She
fe guided, rather than ruled, by
fashion trends,” Mrs. Scott said.
The New York stylist gteve several
easy to follow hints on how to be
well dressed on a limited budget.
Pointing out that a majority of ru
ral women make their own clothes
she urged them to be cautious in
selecting patterns. ‘‘There is a size
that’s right for you and it’s so much
better to buy the correct one than
it is to accept one that you will need
to cut down, or make allowances for
larger seams.
“Make a habit, too, of buying; fine
quality material for the outfits you
make. That habit coupled with the
®ne about choosing the correct size
pattern and sticking to styles that
really suit you, can assure you a
dress or suit that will be a favorjte
for several years instead of one sea
son. For that reason it is so much
store economical in the long run to
invest a little more money in mater
ial at the outset, than to have to
f replace a garment when its’s only
been worn one or two seasons.”
Mrs. Cynthia W. Davis, home dem
onstration agent for Butts county,
added a word of advice to Mrs.
Scott’s by reminding members that
borne demonstration clubs here will
soon be holding their annual fashion
shows and the hints given by Mrs.
Seott will be good ones to remembei
in preparing for the shows.
