LARGE CROWDS ATTENDED
JENKINSBURG IRIS SHOW
The Iris anow sponsored by the
Jenkinsburg Garden Club proved to
be a success in every way. It was
held Saturday, April 18, at the Jen
kinsburg Clubhouse where the love
ly arrangements and horticultural
specimens were a delight to behold.
Mrs. Clarence S. Rogers was general
chairman and was ably assisted by
members of the club.
“Coronation of Queen Iris” was
the theme and the Sweepstakes win
ner ,a beautiful Mt. Washington iris,
entered by Mrs. H. G. Harris was
crowned Queen of the Show.
In the invitation class “Ladies of
the Court,” Mrs. H. O. Ball won the
tricolor award for a lovely, stately
arrangement. Other arrangement
classes and the winners' in each
were ‘‘Queen Simplicity” won by
Mrs. C. S. Rogers; “To the Queen’s
Taste” won by Mrs. H. G. Harris;
and “Queen’s Jewels” won by Mrs.
C. S. Rogers. Mrs. Rogers’ arrange
ment in “Queen Simplicity” won the
tri-color award as best arrangement
in the show.
In the Horticultural classes Mrs.
H. C. Brooks was first, Mrs. T. T.
Patrick second, and Mrs. M. B. Far
rar third.
Judges of the show were Mr. and
Mrs. M. W. Blanton, Mr. and Mrs.
Fay Pearce, Mr. M. E. Satterfield,
and Mrs. Mitchum, all of Atlanta.
Punch was served by Emily Far
rar, Nancy Harris and Charlotte Cas
ton who were attired in lovely formal
dresses.
Visitors came from Montieello,
Griffin, McDonough, Decatur, At
lanta, Hapeville, Statesboro, Savan
nah, Forsyth, Macon and surround
ing communities.
The judges were entertained at a
Coke party at the home of Mrs. B.
Jj. Trapnell on the morning of the
: low, with Mrs. James Whitaker as
ohostess and at a covered dish
luncheon at noon at the Jenkinsburg
Clubhouse.

TO MEET FRIDAY NIGHT
A meeting of Jeptha Chapter,
0.E.5., will be held Friday evening,
April 24, at 7 p. m. in the Masonic
Hall. Mrs. Mollie Garland, Worthy
Matron of the organization, calls at

Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Spurlin of At
lanta were guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Franklin Maddox during the week
end.
Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Maddox and
Claude visited Columbus Sunday to
view the devastation caused by the
severe wind storms of Saturday af
ternoon. They report the area in
which their daughter, Mrs. Charles
Kemp, Jr., resides was not struck
by the storm and that the Kemps
were out of town when the storm hit.
Mr. and Mrs. Summer Spaulding
of Hollis, N. H., spent the weekend
with Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Pace and
Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Pace.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Davis and
children, Vivian, Charlotte. Harriett
and Don of Stockbridge, were guests
Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Pace
and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Pace.
Mr. and Mrs. Watson Fisher of
Perry spent the weekend with Mrs.
S. W, Maddox.

Effective Monday, April 27, 1953
Southern Railway Train No. 27, “The
Cracker,” will leave Jackson at 8:45
a. m. instead of 9:25 a. m. for Ma
con, Brunswick and intermediate
points.

MEETING ON APRIL 27
The Jackson Business & Profes
sional Women’s Club will hold its
regular dinner meeting on Monday
evening, April 27, at 7 o’clock at the
Jackson Woman’s Clubhouse.
A skit on parliamentary law will
be given by members of the club.
Since this will be the last dinner
meeting of the club year and a most
important one, Mrs. L. M. Spencer,
president, urges, all members to at
tend, as much business is to come
before the club. Delegates to State
Convention are to be named at this
meeting.
Members are urged to notify their
committee chairmen by Friday after
noon as to whether or not you will
be able to attend this dinner meet
ing.
MR., MRS. GLAZE OBSERVED
42ND WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Glaze of Pep
perton observed their 42nd wedding
anniversary April 23 amid the good
wishes of a host of friends. They
were married April 23 in Social Cir
cle by the Rev. Mr. Branch. Mrs.
Glaze was the former Miss Katie
Norris of Warren county.
Mr. and Mrs. Glaze have beep res
idents of Pepperton for several years
and enjoy the confidence of a wide
circle of friends who wish them many
more years of happy married life.
Their children are Mrs. Lois Stodg
hill of Pepperton and Olin L. Glaze,
serving with the Air Force at Barks
dale, La., and one grandson, Billy
Stodghill.
SENIOR PLAY BE PRESENTED
APRIL 29-30 AND MAY 1
The Senior class play of Jackson
High school* “Maid to Order,” will
be presented April 29-30 and May 1.
The hour will be 8 o’clock. More
details of the play will be given later.

Mr. and Mrs. P. H. Weaver are
spending the week at Daytona Beach
where Mr. Weaver is attending a
meeting of the Nylic Star Club, or
ganization of New York Life' Insur
ance Company agents. He was award
ed the trip as the result of good
showing made in the Jackson terri
tory.
Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Saunders and
children of Atlanta spent the week
end at their cottage at Indian
Springs.
Mr. A. L. Sanders of Opelika, Ala.,
spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
W. J. Saunders at Jenkinsburg.
Mrs. James W. Watkins Jr., who
has been in England with her hus
band, First Lieut. James W. Wat
kins Jr., medical squadron, is spend
ing several weeks with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Minter at Jen
kinsburg. Mrs. Watkins plans to re
turn to England the latter part of
May.
Mr. H. M. Fletcher has returned
from an Atlanta hospital where he
was a patient for several days, and
friends are glad to know of his im
provement. *
Mrs. Van Jones, Mrs. Bryant Wil
liamson and Mrs. T. H. Price attend
ed the meeting of the Georgia Bap
tist Sunday School convention in
Marietta Monday.
