MISS ELMA HOFFAR IS WED
TO DR. S. J. SMITH APRIL 12
Miss Elma Hoffar of Leesburg,
Fla., and Dr. S. J. Smith, of Monti
cello, were united in marriage at the
home of Mr. Walter J. Smith and
brothers and sisters Sunday, April
12, at 4:30 p. m. The Rev. Francis
Stewart, pastor of the First Baptist
Church in Monticello, performed the
ceremony in the presence of the im
mediate families and several guests.
The home was beautifully decora
ted throughout with white dogwood
and fern. The marriage took place in
the living room under an arch of
fern with baskets of white gladiolus
and palms at each side of the arch.
Candelabra held burning white ta
pers. Mrs. J. W. O’Neal rendered
prenuptial music at the piano, and
also played softly during the cere
mony. Mendelssohn’s Wedding March
was used.
The bride was becomingly dressed
in a suit ,of navy blue faille with
navy and white accessories. Her hat
was an illusion of pale pink flowers
with a matching vale. 'With this she
wore a corsage of white orchids. She
also wore a necklace and matching
ear rings, gift of the groom.
Following the ceremony a recep
tion was held. The bride’s table was
laid with an Italian cut-work linen
cloth with an arrangement in the
center of white iris, chyrsanthemums
and snapdragons. Silver candle sticks
held burning white tapers at each
end of the table. The mantle held
an arrangement of white dogwood
with silver candlesticks and burning
white tapers. Miss Mary Sue Lane,
niece of the groom, kept the bride’s
book and Miss Almeda Ballenger,
niece of the groom, served at the
punch bowl. Individual cakes decora
ted with Lilly of the Valley were
served with green and white mints.
Following the reception Dr. and
Mrs. Smith left for a wedding trip
tp the mountains of North Carolina
after which they will be-at home in
Monticello.

bride, Leesburg, Fla.; Mrs. Ethel
Skinner, Corning, Ark.; Mr. and Mrs.

Rev. and Mrs. Ed Welch are
spending two weeks in a revival
meeting in Savannah. Rev. Paul Cal
licott of Mercer University, filled the
pulpit at Macedonia Sunday and he
and his wife and two children were
entertained in the homes of Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Railey and Mr. and Mrs.
Van Jones.
Mr. and Mrs. Joel Cawthon an
nounce the birth of a daughter in
the Monticello Hospital last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Asa O’Neal entertain
ed their friends with a singing for
Lieut, and Mrs. Alvin O’Neal pre
vious to their departure for New Jer
sey to visit relatives before Lieut.
O’Neal leaves for Europe.
Mr. and Mrs. Ila Welch and daugh
ter of Conley visited relatives here
Sunday.

Maddox of Fincherville visited rela
tives and friends at Fort Jackson,
S. C., Sunday.
Mr. Grady Singley of Corbin, Ky.,
spent the weekend at the home of
his mother, Mrs. Henry Singley.
Miss Betty Ruth Cook of Atlanta
spent the weekend with her parents,
Mr .and Mrs. Bennie Cook.
There will be preaching services
at Stark Methodist Church Thursday
and Friday nights of this week and
the public is invited.

TOWALIGA GA’S MET APRIL
17 AND OUTLINE WORK
The t'owaliga GA’s met at the
church Friday, April 17, with 12
members present. Because of the
absence of the president, Ethryn
Freeman, Mrs. Pete Ridgeway had
charge of the' program. Plans were
made for the new work and the WMU
is ordering 15 World Comrades. We
are beginning our work with great
interest and ask that all Christians
pray for us.
There will be two meetings a
month, the next one to be May 1.
After the business session refresh
ments were served by Mrs. Herbert
Bryant.

while in the hospital and during my
