from a delightful week’s vacation
in Florida. He flew down via Eastern
Air Lines and spent a week with rel
atives and friends in St. Petersburg.

Mrs. Margaret Spensely of Ux
bridge, England, announces the en
gagement of her daughter, Elsie, to
A/lc Eugene C. Williams, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Williams of
Jackson. The groom-to-be is serving
with the United States Air Force in
England. He is a graduate of Jack
son High Bchool and was a member
of the football team during his stu
dent days.
JENKINSBURC HD CLUB MET

The Jenkinsburg Home Demonstra
tion Club met at the lovely home of
Mrs. Hulon Price April 15, with 12
members and four visitors, also Mrs.
Cynthia Davis and four 4-H club
girls. The president, Mrs. H. G. Har
ris, welcomed the visitors and judges
of style revue, Mrs. Lawrence Mor
gan, Mrs. James Payne and little
daughter and Mrs. Otho Morgan. Mrs.
Payne and Mrs. Otho Morgan were
the judges. Mrs. J. H. Jackson gave
an inspiring devotional on prayer.
Jesus gives us patterns of prayer,
Luke 11:1-4. This was followed with
prayer by Mrs. Jackson.
The style revue for May 19 was
discussed. Six members of the club
will go to Rock Eagle Lake near
Eatonton April 30 for camp. Plans
were discussed for raising money to
move 4-H camp and to equip same.
Winners in the style revue were as
follows:

Sack dress, Mrs. J. R. Thompson,
Ist; Mrs. James Whitaker, Mrs. Har
ry Ridgeway tied for 2nd.

club with several beautiful piano se
lections while the judges were mak
ing their decision.

The Jenkinsburg Woman’s Society
for Christian Service met at the home
of Mrs. W. W. Hooten April 20.
Beautiful flower arrangements of
iris adorned the living room and
eight members were present. The
meeting was opened by singing “For
the Night Is Coming,” and the devo
tional was led by Mrs. J. R. Thomp
son, assisted by Mrs. M. B. Farrar,
reading Isaiah 49:1-13, and Mrs.
Thompson John 23:1-14. Mrs. H. C.
Brooks gave quotations related to
scriptures. Silent prayer followed and
the Lord’s Prayer said in unison con
cluded the devotional.
The president, Mrs. Brooks, presid-
ed over the short business meeting.
Vacation Bible school plans were dis
cussed. The nominating committee,
Mrs. W. W. Hooten and Mrs. J. L.
Whitaker, gave their report, all of
ficers to remain the same for 1953.
They are: Mrs. H. C. Brooks, pres
ident; Mrs. W. W. Hooten, vice pres
ident; Mrs. J. F. Whitaker, secretary;
Mrs. A. R. Rosser, treasurer.
Mrs. CarrTe Leila Price was ap
pointed delegate to North Georgia
WSCS meeting at St. Marks Metho
dist Church, Atlanta, April 28-30.
Mrs. Thompson had charge of the
program. A short drama was played
by Mrs. Brooks, Mrs. M. B. Farrar,
Mrs. A. R. Rosser and Mrs. Thomp
son. The meeting was closed by sing
ing “Have Thine Own Way, Lord”,
followed with prayer by Mrs. A. R-
Rosser.
During the social period appetizing
sandwiches, cake and hot coffee were
served by the hostess, Mrs. W. W.
Hooten. The next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. H. C. Brooks.
FLOVILLA HD CLUB HAD
MEETING ON APRIL 14
The Flovilla HD club met April 14
with five members present. The meet
ing was opened by singing A Spanish
Cavalier, then Mrs. T. G. Brooks gave
the devotional based on the power of
prayer. Mrs. R. L. Allen closed the
devotional with a period of prayer.
The matter of moving the camp at
Indian Springs to its new location
was discussed by Mrs. Davis. She
mentioned two or three projects the
county council plans for financing
its moving. They are a barbecue July
1 on the courthouse square with pro
ceeds going to the camp moving fund,
and a cooking school. A tour of Rock
Eagle park is planned for the county
council on April 30.
Mrs. Davis’ demonstration was on
pastry making and it was both in
teresting and instructive. At the
close of the meeting ice cream and
cookies were served.
LIBERTY WMS MET WITH
MRS. WEBB APRIL 22
Liberty WMS held its regular
meeting April 22 at the home of Mrs.
Hughie Webb, with 12 members
present Mrs. W. P. Brooks as pres
ident presided and welcomed mem
bers and visitors who were Mrs
George Etheridge and Mrs. Joe Tin
gle. The program chairman, Mrs.
Froest Powell, arranged the program
on “Our Neighbor, Mexico.” This
topic runs parallel to the book, “The
West Is Big,” recently taught by Rev.
G. A. Briggs, which several of our
members were fortunate to hear.
Mrs. Brooks gave the devotional
from 1 Cor. l6;l-9, and this was fol
lowed with prayer. Taking part on
the program were Mrs. Hunt Ridge
way, Mrs. B. g B. Campbell, Mrs. Bal
lard Perdue, Mrs Carter Moore, Mrs.
Belle Weaver, Mrs. J. M. Washington
led in prayer. Regular business was
transacted qnd plans were made for
erecting signs to the church. Mrs.
Albert Maddox and Mrs, Campbell
were named on this committee. It
was voted to send baskets to the el
derly of the community and Mrs. J.
T. Maddox and Mrs'. J. M. Washing
ton was chosen on this group. The
meeting was dismissed with prayer by
Mrs. Campbell.
Cookies, sandwiches, potato chips
and Coca Cola were served. The next
meeting will be with Mrs. T. M.
Washington May 20.
