John Wayne Tops
Dixie Star List
For Next Week
Four of Hollywood’s top stars
combine their talents Thursday and
Friday to bring one of the year’s
outstanding pictures to the Dixie
when Lana Turner, Kirk Douglas,
W’alter Pidgeon and Dick Powell
star in ‘“The Bad and the Beauti
ful.” It is one of those films that
should be included on every movie
goer’s “must” list.
Charles Starrett and Smiley Bur
nette are the stars Saturday 'in
“Bonanza Town,” a smashing, slash
ing Western tale of outlaw roundup
time.
Another of the ever-popular Tar
zan adventure films is on the Dixie
menu for Monday and Tuesday
when Lex Barker and Dorothy Hunt
star in “Tarzan’s Savage Fury.”
The Tarzan series is tops in its field
of adventure and animal life in a
jungle setting.
A novel Western, in which action
is centered on gambling machines
rather than conflict in the wide open
spaces, is the Dixie offering on
Wednesday when Caileton Carpen
ter, Jan Sterling and Keenan Wynn

lous Las Vegas is the exciting lo
cale of the film.
John Wayne, who rates near the
top in box-office appeal, is the star
Thursday and Friday along with
Robert Ryan in “Flying Leather
necks.” It is an aviation drama deal
ing with the air arm of the U. S.

North Clayton
Wins Class “B”
State Track Title
Those Jackson High track fans
who were distressed when the Red
Devils failed to annex their third
successive Fourth District champion
ship in the recent meet at Greens
ville, felt better over the week-end
as North Clayton emerged from the
state meet at Macon as Class “B”
track champions.
Oddly enough, North Clayton fail
ed to win the Fourth District crown,
losing 43 - 41 to Jonesboro in the
Greenville meet.
With the annexation of the state
track title, the Fourth District, al
ready an established football power,
moved into a position of dominence
in track and field events.
Pete Maloy was the leading poin
getter for North Clayton, winning
both the high and low hurdles. Mal
loy broke the state low hurdles
record with a 22-2 in the time trials
Friday. In the finals, he did a 22-4 in
the 180-yd. lows and a 16-4 in the
120-yard highs.
North Clayton garnered 23 points
in winning the Class “B” title, Jef
ferson was second with 14 and
Nahunta third with 13 points.
Authentic battle films give the pic
ture realism and action that make
it noteworthy.
