The marriage of Miss Florence
Ruth Thaxton and Cecil Ruben Ward
was solemnized Tuesday, January 15,
at a civil ceremony performed by
Butts County Ordinary R. W. Wat
kins, Jr.
Mrs. Ward is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Claude Thaxton of Jackson.
The ceremony was witnessed by sev
eral friends of the couple.
LIBERTY WMS HOLDS
JANUARY MEETING
Liberty W. M. S. met at the home
of Mrs. J. M. Washington on Wednes
day, January 16 at 2 o’clock. Eleven
members answered roll call with
Bible verses. Mrs. W. P. Brooks,
president, presided and opened the
meeting with prayer.
Topic for the month was “How Do
My Tithes and Offerings Carry the
Gospel in the Homeland.”
Mrs. J. M. Washington gave the 1
devotional from Genesis 28:10-22,
pointing out that nothing is our own,
all we have belongs to God, and Love
—the motive for giving.
Mrs. Lewis Weldon, program chair-
man, arranged a very interesting pro
gram with members taking parts on
the topics, “Bring Ye all the Tithes”
and “Where Shall I Give My Tithe”?
Regular business was transacted
and voted to have Annie Armstrong
program combined with the next reg
ular meeting. Mrs. H. W. Webb clos
ed the meeting with prayer.
Mrs. Frank Moore, Anne Moore
and Patsy Maddox were visitors.
During the social period, sand
wiches, fruit cake, toasted nuts and
coffee were served.
Mrs. J. T. Maddox will be hostess
at the next meeting on February 13
at 2 o’clock.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 25
The Daughters of the American
Revolution -will meet on Friday, Jan
uary 25, at 3 o’clock at the home of
Mrs. Gordon Bankston on West Third
Street. Co-hostesses will be Mrs. T.
B. Miller and Mrs. M. T. Aycock of
Decatur.

HAWTHORNE GARDEN CLUB
MET WITH MRS. MILLER
The Hawthorne Garden Club met
with Mrs. T. B. Miller for their Jan
uary meeting.
The meeting was called to order
by the president, Mrs. H. H. Grant.
The Lord’s Prayer was repeated in
unison. The regular routine business
was transacted.
The program was given by Mrs.
Grant. Her topic for the afternoon
was “Soil and Pruning.” She gave a
very informative talk on the types
of soil, stressing the importance of
knowing when and how to prune.
Mrs. Grant placed first in arrange
ments and Mrs. M. C. Johnson was
second.
The hostess served delicious fruit
cake, nuts and coffee.

Lockhart attended the wedding of
Miss Betty Thurston to Mr. Ronald
Paine, w'hich took place January 12
at the W’est End Baptist Church.
Mrs. Paine is a granddaughter of
Mrs. Lockhart.
The infant son of Mr. and Mrs.
G. L. Norris has been given the name
Terrell Glynn Norris, friends will be
interested to learn.
Mrs. Eugene Rooks and children
left Saturday to join Mr. Rooks in
Cordele where he will be engaged in
the lumber business. They will make
their home at 307 13th Avenue, East.
Friends of Mrs. George F. Martin,
McDonough Road, will be interested
to learn she is a patient at Griffin-
Spalding County Hospital. Mrs. Mar
tin underwent major surgery Tues
day morning.
