INSTALLED AS B&PW HEAD
Mrs. Gladys Wilson installed offi
cers of the B&PW Club for 1957-
58 on Monday evening, April 29, at
impressive ceremonies using the Pine
Tree Installation Service which she
wrote in honor of Mrs. Rosebud Mc-
Cormick, state president. Officers in
stalled were Miss Elizabeth McMich
ael, president; Mrs. Mary Will
Hearn, first vice president; Mrs.
Mary Ann Gray, second vice presi
dent; Mrs. Jewelling Polk, recording
secretary; Miss Beatrice Wood, cor
responding secretary; Mrs. Jane
Powell, treasurer.
Mrs. Helen Spencer presented the
retiring president, Mrs. Maymie Cog
gins, a lovely silver tray from the
club as a token of appreciation for
her outstanding work during the
year.
Delegates to the State Convention
in Savannah, May 17-19, were elected
and include: Mrs. Maymie Coggins,
Mrs. Gladys Wilson, Mrs. Mary Ann
Gray, Mrs. Winnie Moore, Miss Mary
Downs, Miss Beatrice Wood, Mrs.
Mary Will Hearn, Mrs. Allie Bank
ston. Alternates: Miss Georgie Wat
kins, Mrs. Mae Carr, Mrs. Florence
Harris, Mrs. Madgia Godsey, Miss
Pauline Mallet, Mrs. Maude Edwards,
Mrs. Willie T. Wade, Mrs. Jewelline

State officers to the convention
will be Mrs. Helen Spencer, Mrs.
Jane Powell, and Mrs. Mary Sasser,
and Miss McMichael, the new presi
dent, will automatically go as a
Board member.

Statue Federation the name of Mrs.
Gladys Wilson as Woman of Achieve
ment.
Miss McMichael called attention to
the business meeting scheduled fpr
Tuesday evening, May 7, at 7:30
o’clock at Hawkes Library.
COUNTY LINE WMS MET AT
HOME OF MRS. McGOUGH
The County Line W.M.S. met at
the home of Mrs. Dewey McGough
for their regular meeting on April
25 with nine members present.
The meeting was opened by the
president and followed with prayer
by Mrs. B. C. Singley. The devotional
from Hebrew 11:1-10 and Hebrew
12:1-2 was given by Mrs. Palmer
Sims.
Avery interesting program, “Car
ver School, A Source of Blessings,”
from Royal Service was given with
members taking part. Mrs. McGough
gave a very interesting and beneficial
talk on Stewardship.
The meeting was closed with pray
er by the president.
"During the social hour an attrac
tive and delicious salad course and
iced tea was served.
The next meeting will be held May
23 at the home of Mrs. Bernice Mc-
Clendon.
CONFERENCE AT TOWALIGA
BAPTIST CHURCH o*l SUNDAY
There will be a special conference
following the regular morning wor
ship service Sunday, May 5, at’ the
Towaliga Baptist Church for the
purpose of hearing a report of the
committee which is studying the pos
sibility of making some improve
ments to the interior of the church.
All members are requested to attend.
PUPILS MRS. O’NEAL TO GIVE
RECITAL FRIDAY, MAY 10
Pupils of Mrs. J. W. O’Neal will
be heard in a recital to be held Fri
day evening, May 10, at 8:15 o clock
in the Grammar School auditorium.
The recital this year will feature
four pianos.
The public is cordially invited.

Pfc. Phillip L. Minton, formerly
stationed at Fort Devens, Mass., is
spending 15 days at home with his
parents before reporting to San
Francisco for a destination overseas.
Mrs. T. H. Malcolm and daughter,
Peggy, spent several days the past
week with Mr. and Mrs. John Hunt,
Miss Mary Ann Hunt, and Mrs. Clyde
Colwell.

Herbert Moore, Mrs. Roy“ Prosser,
and Mrs. Howard Jolly went up to
Atlanta last Wednesday for the State
PTA Convention.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Patrick of
Atlanta will spend the weekend with
Mrs. Lucile Patrick.
Mrs. T. B Miller spent several days
in Atlanta last week as a delegate to
the Woman’s Society for Christian
Service Conference at the First
Methodist Church.
Mrs. Miriam S. Butler of Colum
bus, Miss Leila Sams and Mrs. Yates
Foster of Atlanta were weekend
guests of Mrs. T. B. Miller and Mrs.
J. B. Harrison.

Hugh Glidewell returned Wednes
day from a visit of several days with
relatives in St. Petersburg, Fla.

ough spent Easter Sunday with their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wells,
Harold, and Sgt. Elzie Wells.

went to Augusta Saturday to visit'
C. H. Mitchell, whose condition is
reported as not much improved in
a hospital thej*.

of Macon, were dinner guests Sunday
of Mr. arid Mrs. Russell Cawthon.
Mrs. Mattie Cawthon returned to
Macon with Mr. and Mrs. Wood after
spending several days in Butts coun-
ty.

On Saturday evening, April 27,
Miss Ruth Middlebrooks attended the
wedding of her cousin, Miss Kathryn
Middlebrooks, and Forest Russell
Davis Jr., of Charlotte, N. C. The
wedding took place at the Riverdale
Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. L. M. Spencer and Mrs. W.
T. Feely went to Statesboro last
Thursday for the organization of a
new B&PW Club at Springfield, Ga.,
in Effingham county.
Messrs. Vincent Jones and Doyle
Jones Jr. attended the state track
meet at Porter Field in Macon Fri
day afternoon.
Miss Georgie Watkins and Messrs.
Foster Leverrett and Aldine Carmi
chael formed a pulpit committee to
journey to Montgomery, Ala., Sun
day on official church business for
the Jackson Presbyterian Church.
Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Poole of Way
nesboro, Va. were guests for the
weekend of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice
Moore. They are en route by a lei
surely way to California where they
will visit relatives. They will return
by Salem, Oregon, the Black Hills
of the Dakotas, the Yellowstone
National Park and Chicago, on to
Virginia.
Miss Mary Silas and Mrs. Mary
Combs of Jacksonville and Mrs. Da
vid Faulkner of Anniston, Ala. will
spend the weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
Bert Carmichael, Jr. The group, in
company with Dr. and Mrs. Lamar
Mays of Atlanta, will attend the At
lanta performance of the Metropoli
tan Opera troupe.
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Jolly spent
the weekend in Reidsville with Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Taylor and family.

Miss Ruth Middlebrooks attended
the funeral of her cousin, Mrs. G B.
Hubbard, Monday afternoon, April
29, at Locust Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Hubbard was formerly Miss
Lucile Middlebrooks, daughter of the
late J. William Middlebrooks and Al
lie Brown.
On Sunday, April 28, Miss Ruth
Middlebrooks worshipped with the
Presbyterians at Riverdale. At the
morning service her little five months
old cousin, Melodie Huie, was christ
ened. Melodie is the granddaughter
of the former Miss Lillian Middle
brooks.
Guests this week of Mrs. Gladys
Wilson and Mrs. J. A. Kimbell are
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Casto, Carol
and Melissa, and Mrs. J. B. Thurston
and Jerry Thurston, of Pittsburgh,
Pa.
Miss Lisa Ball, of Atlanta, spent
three days last week with Miss Mary
Ann Hunt.
