Don F. Welch
Farm Is Second
Of Mystery Photos
The second', of the Mystery Farm
photo series currently appearing in
the Jackson Progress-Argus, with
Adams-Briscoc Seed Cos. as sponsor,
was that of Elon F. Welch, located
on the Four Points-Fincherville Road
several miles north of Jackson.
Welch has owned the 370-acre
farm since 1037, and his parents, the
late Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Welch have
Wned the property since the early
1900’s. The farm was once known as
the J. Torn Stewart place and many
people still refer to it by that name.
Cotton and corn are the two main
cash crops grown on the Welch farm,
although he does market some veg
tables locally and in neighboring
towns.
He has successfully resisted the
trend towards mechanization, and
etill uses mulepower instead of horse
power for farm cultivation.
To diversify his farming interest,
he maintains a herd of about 20 cat
tie.
Mrs. Welch, the former Miss Lucile
Reeves, is an active member of the
Cedar Rock Congregational Metho
odist Church and the family is active
ly interested in all civic and com
munity endeavors in the I,orth Butts
area.
Although the Welch’s do not sub
scribe to the Progress-Argus, Mr.
Welch says he “buys one all along”
and he was quick to recognize his
home when the Thursday issue hit
the streets.

MRS. LEON PULLIN, JR., Owner
To Dog Owners
' i
Recently some 30 dogs or more within the City
of Jackson have been poisoned by someone with
the use of strychnine. We have stray dogs like every
other town but some of these dogs belong to people
who prize them highly. The City Government pro
vides a method of disposing of stray dogs or dogs
which do not bear a tag. Poisoning is not a method
by which the City disposes of dogs. In fact, the in
discriminate use of poison is condemned and like
wise criminal. Besides strychnine is dangerous to
children who may accidentally be poisoned by the
indiscriminate use of it. The matter of detection of
the one responsible is now being investigated.
It is strongly urged that all dog owners comply
with the ordinances of the Cky as well as keep their
dogs so that their neighbors will not be disturbed.
