Service Commission for author
ity to revise its exchange tariff
at Jackson, Georgia to place this
exchange in the rate classification
to which it has grown.
The schedule of rate applicable
for exchanges the size of Jack
son, and for which the Telephone
Company has applied are:

day night.
Asa result of a headon collis
ion between an automobile and
pickup truck two miles north of
McDonough Friday afternoon,
four Butts County residents died
of injuries suffered in the crash.
Victims of the accident were Mr.
and Mrs. Young Lummus of Jack
son and their son, Bertice Lee
Lummus of Atlanta, and Walter
Dewey Haynes of Flovilla.
Fourteen of the 19 churches in
the Kimbell Association took part
in the annual campaign to donate
produce and cash for the Baptist
Home in Hapeville.
Jackson High’s arch basketball
rival from Milner made a clean
sweep of Thursday night’s games
here, the Milner girls taking a
28-26 decision while the Milner
boys wrestled a 42-30 victory
from the Jackson Red Devils.

the State of Georgia, represented
by Solicitor General Frank B.
Willingham of the Flint Circuit,
charging that intoxicants were
being sold, two places at Indian
Springs were ordered padlocked
by the Hon. G. Odgen Persons,
Judge of the Flint Circuit.
There will be a patriotic meet
ing of all citizens of Butts County
at the courthouse Monday night,
December 7, honoring the men in
uniform.
The death of J. Carl Funder
burk, age 47, one of the best
known citizens of Flovilla, oc
curred Sunday afternoon in Vet
erans Hospital 48 in Atlanta.
To better acquaint the public
with air raid signals, there will
be a practice Friday night begin
ning at 9 o’clock.
News of 30 Years Ago
Up to the first of this week
less than 40 voters had registered
for the Jackson City Primary to
be held sometime during Decem
ber. The registration books will
be closed on December 15, ac
cording to a ruling of the City
Council.
For the purpose of allowing
the court to go thoroughly into
the records, Governor Richard B.
Russell on December 15 granted
a 15 day respite to Tom King,

The books are now open for the payment of 1962 taxes.
According to law, over which we have no control whatever,
if payment of your taxes is not made by December 20, it is
mandatory that we add both fi fa cost and interest. We
sincerely urge that you make immediate payment to avoid
extra cost and expense.
Statements have been mailed showing the amount each
taxpayer owes for 1962. This applies to all forms of taxes,
property, intangible, and automobiles. If you did not re
ceive a statement this does not mean you are exempt from
the tax. It is either an oversight or an error.
