Christmas Seals
Aid Community
In TB Campaign
The 1962 Christmas Seals are
thoroughly enchanting. The chil
dren decorating the tree with the
double-barred cross are bound
to add extra Christmas cheer
when you put them on letters,
cards, and packages. And the ap
pearance of the Seals each year
assures you that your tubercu
losis association continues to
fight TB for you in your com
munity.
According to Mrs. A. D. Pope,
chairman of the Butts County
Tuberculosis Committee, the mail
ing of Christmas Seals has been
completed in Butts County, and
as of Monday morning $203 had
been received. Mrs. Pope urges
those who haven’t already done
so to please send in their Christ
mas Seal contributions today. She
also reminded to use Christmas
Seals on all cards, letters and
packages.
Your Christmas Seal dollars
work for you all through the
year. In case detection efforts,
in the education of professional
people specializing in chest dis
eases, in the health education of
the public, in research to find
better methods of prevention,
diagnosis and treatment —Christ-
mas Seals are at work.
Christmas Seals work all the
time to improve the general
health of the community. Christ
mas Seals are behind your TB
Association’s unremitting efforts
to find and close the gaps in TB
control.
When you contribute for
Christmas Seals, you invest in
your own good health as well
as the health of your community.
With TB, no one is safe until all
are safe. Christmas Seals are
traditional expressions of the
American way of helping one an
other.
PHONE DIRECTORY MAILING
WILL BE COMPLETED SOON
The new telephone directory
delivery will be completed this
week, Albert Harrell, Jackson
Telephone Manager announced
Tuesday.
Due to the volume of directo
ries to be delivered in the Jack
son area, it was necessary to
stagger the mailing. The first
bundle was mailed last Thursday
and delivery should be completed
by December 14, according to Mr.
Harrell.
He urged anyone who does not
receive a directory after Decem
ber 14 to call the Jackson Busi
ness Office, phone 9001.

Georgia Power Is
Tax Santa Claus
To Butts County
J. Weyman Lamb, insurance
analyst with Georgia Power Com
pany in Atlanta, spoke to the
Jackson Kiwanis Club Tuesday
night and defended the free en
terprise system as the “finest
economic system in the world and
the one under which the United
States has achieved its greatest
advances.”
Mr. Lamb identified his com
pany as Butts County’s largest
tax payer and said that within
a few days a check for $58,694
will be presented for 1962 taxes.
The speaker also pointed out that
Georgia Power annually pays
over $10,000,000 in state taxes
and over $20,000,000 in Federal
tax. He estimated Russia’s total
electric output as less than one
third that produced in the United
States and disclosed that 80 per
cent of the power used in the
United States is produced by in
vestor-owned taxpaying electric
utilities. The speaker was pre
sented by B. Y. Lunceford, su
perintendent of the Georgia
Power Hydro-Electric Plant at
Lloyd Shoals.
Mayor W. M. Redman was
saluted musically on his birthday
during the week. Bob Pinckney,
program chairman for next Tues
day, announced that Lt. Gov.-
Elect Bob Price of Fayetteville
will install Kiwanis officers.
