Jackson Court
The Jackson cage teams faired
poorly in the Pike County Invi
tational Tournament held in Zeb
ulon on January 2-5, The boys
were eliminated 28-26 by Mary
Persons in the first round. The
girls defeated Mary Persons 42-
20 on January 2nd with Glen
da Gray scoring 23 points, Bren
da Smith and Gail Herbert eight
each. On January 4th Milner
trounced Jackson 56-39 with
Glenda Gray accounting for 20 of
her team’s points. Brenda Smith
tallied 13 and Gail Herbert six.
In the games of Tuesday, Jan
uary Bth, on the Jackson court
the local girls edged Pike County
28-27 while the boys fell victims
to the visitor’s strong team by
the score of 69-46.

MAILED 124 IN COUNTY
Today Wm. M. Gordon, district
manager of the Atlanta office of
Dun & Bradstreet, Inc., announ
ced statement requests were
mailed to 124 businesses in Butts
County. He said this figure was
obtained from a physical count of
the Dun & Bradstreet Reference
Book for January, 1963 which
covers manufacturers, whole
salers and retailers in this area.
DAIRY EFFICIENCY
Steadily improving efficiency
of milk production among Geor
gia dairy farmers is reflected in
the number of producers cited for
high per-cow production. There
were 132 dairymen who qualified
for the Georgia 10-4 Dairy Club
in 1962. The club is sponsored
by the University of Georgia Co
operative Extension Service.
Civil Defense
Classes Begin
On January 10
A second series of Civil De
fense classes is scheduled to begin
at 7:30 p. m. in the school lunch
room on Thursday, January 10th.
The classes will meet one night
each week for six weeks. The first
classes were taught by Principals
Ralph Cooper and J. M. L. Comer
of the high and elementary
schools, respectively.
Although the first meeting is
scheduled for Thursday night, the
remaining meetings will be ar
ranged for the convenience of the
group.
A total of 285 persons enrolled
in the previous series of classes.
Of this number, 186 received cer
tificates for completing the
course. Any student who did not
receive a certificate may do so
by attending the particular meet
ing missed in the previous course.

versity’s Extension Department
of Christian Education will be
held Tuesday, January 15.
The dean of the Center, the
Rev. Hugh Formby, Griffin, said
classes will begin the same eve
ning at the East Griffin Baptist
Church.
Classes will be held each Tues
day evening. The two courses of
fered will be Baptist Doctrine
(7:30 p. m.), taught by the Rev.
Gordon Wood, and Genesis (8:-
30 p. m.), taught by Thomas I.
