HARMON REUNION WAS
HELD ON JUNE 8
Of widespread interest was the
Harmon Reunion held Saturday,
June 8, at Indian Springs. Com
prised of descendants of the late
Newton Joseph and Leila Banks
ton Harmon, esteemed residents
of Butts County for many years,
it is held each year on the
second Saturday in June. There
were sixty-one present on this
happy occasion.
At the noon hour, a bountiful
picnic lunch was spread on the
tables under the trees.
Only one of the “Harmon”
children is deceased, the youngest
daughter, Mabel, having passed
away twenty-seven years ago, the
surviving ten range in age from
eighty-one down to sixty. All of
them were present except Lillie
H. Downing, absent because of
illness in her family.
Those present were: James G.
Harmon, attending for the first
time in eight years, Nina H.
Vickers of Charlotte, N. C., Jud
son Harmon, Mrs. Willie H. Var
nedoe, Mrs. Ina H. Linton, Mrs.
Emily H. Owen all of Atlanta,
Mrs. Mamie H. McClure, Mrs.
Laura H. McClure and Mrs.
Maude H. Jones of Jackson.
The next reunion will be held
on Saturday, June 13, 1964 at
Indian Springs
PERSONAL
Capt. and Mrs. Donald Brown
and children, Donolyn and Bob
by, of San Antonio, Texas will
arrive Friday for a month’s visit
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
E. L. Wilson.
Mrs. W. W. Wright spent a
part of last week at Jekyll Island
in company with her daughter,
Mrs. C. B. Guest, and family of
Athens, who were attending the
Elk’s Convention there.
Harold Daniel Jr., Student
Youth Leader at the Methodist
Church, was luncheon guest Sun
day of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Ad
ams,, Miss Ann Adams and Miss
Carol Adams at the Elder Hotel,
Indian Springs.

1 want to take this opportunity
to express my heartfelt thanks
for the remembrances, flowers,
cards, calls and visits tendered
me during my recent stay at Syl
van Grove Hospital. I want
to especially thank Drs. Holston
and Newman, Rev. Waterhouse,
the Auxiliary members and the
nurses at the hospital for their
special services. I shall always
remember each of you and may

ENTERTAINED BREAKFAST
Mrs. T. E. Robison Sr. enter
tained members of the Jackson
Garden Club at a delightful
breakfast Tuesday morning at her
home on Dempsey Avenue.
The color scheme of bronze
gold and green was carried out in
the china and glassware in keep
ing with the newly redecorated
home. The table’s central decora
tion was an arrangement of Ma
jestic daisies, Day Lillies, and
Fuji mums.
The tempting breakfast consis
ted of fruit cup, country ham,
grits, eggs, graham biscuits, cof
fee, and jellies.
Mrs. Hampton Daughtry car
ried members on a tour of Puerto
Rico, having recently made a trip
there. She told of the wonderful
flower gardens she viewed, the
beautiful castles, and other inter
esting scenes.
Mrs. W. W. Wright Jr., of
Spartanburg, S. C., was a special
guest.
WOMEN OF CHURCH MET
WITH MRS. CARMICHAEL
Mrs. Ed Carmichael entertain
ed the Presbyterian Women of
the Church Monday evening, June
10, at a delightfully informal sup
per meeting at her home on
Dempsey Avenue.
Following the social hour, Mrs.
Lovett Fletcher, president, open
ed the meeting with prayer and
presided over business.
Taking part on the program,
“The King Claims His Kingdom,”
were Mrs. S. L. Austin, Mrs. Vin
cent Jones, Mrs. Lovett Fletcher,
and Miss Delia Watkins.
Named to the nominating com
mittee to secure officers for
another year were Mrs. Margaret
Carmichael, Mrs. Ed Carmichael,
and Mrs. Richard Watkins.
PERSONAL
Mrs. H. A. Carter was admitted
Monday to Georgia Baptist Hos
pital, Atlanta, and will undergo
surgery Friday, friends will be
interested to learn.
Miss Glenda Elliott spent Tues
day and Wednesday with Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Cooper and family
while enroute to her home in
Thomson from Athens, Ohio.
Friends of Mr. Fred Wilkerson
will be glad to learn that he re
turned home Tuesday after
spending several days at Sylvan
Grove Hospital.
Miss Marilyn Patrick spent the
weekend with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Duvall Patrick, and fam
ily, returning to Dahlonega Sun
day to enroll in Summer School
at North Georgia College.

arrived this week for a visit of
several days with Mrs. J. H.
O’Neal. Following their visit here
Mrs. O’Neal will accompany them
to Seven Springs, N. C, for a visit
with Mr. Grady’s relatives.

and Mrs. Howard Greer attended
the Grand Chapter, Order of the
Eastern Star, in Macon Monday
night. The ladies represented
Jephtha Chapter of Jackson .

Mrs. Alice Freeman and Albert

to Dahlonega last Wednesday to
return Sandra Schwamlein home
after completing her first year at
North Georgia College.

Atlanta Tuesday by Mrs. Alice
Freeman and Miss Katherine
Smith of Forsyth.
Little Miss Nita Majorie Rape,
seven year old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles H. Rape of De
catur and grand daughter of Mr.
and Mrs T. R. Sims of Jenkins
burg, was given a Citizenship
Award at a ceremony on June 7th
at the Wesley Chappell School at
Decatur.

of Jackson announce the birth of
a son on June 8 at Sylvan Grove
Hospital. Mrs. Abner before her
marriage was the former Miss
Patsy Fuller.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred L. “Bub
ber” Coleman of St. Simons an
nounce the birth of a son, Alfred
Loyd Coleman Jr., on Tuesday,
June 4, at the Glynn County Hos
pital. Mrs. Coleman is most
pleasantly remembered as the
former Miss Banford Taylor of
St. Simons. Mr. Coleman is the
son of Mrs. A. H. Coleman of
Jackson.
PERSONAL
Friends will be sorry to learn
that Mrs. Ralph Cooper’s mother,
Mrs. Ethelle Terrell Autrey, fell
Sunday night at her daughter’s
home and was admitted Monday
to Sylvan Grove Hospital for
x-ray and treatment.
Miss Cheryl Pope, student at
the Piedmont School of Nursing,
Atlanta, spent the weekend at
home with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. D. Pope Jr.
Friends of Mrs. Gordon Banks
ton, who underwent major sur
gery May 27th at Macon Hospital,
will be interested to learn that
she is improving and was expect
ed to be transferred to Sylvan
Grove Hospital on Wednesday.
Mr. Paul Cawthon, who is a
patient at Sylvan Grove Hospital,
is reported as showing some im
provement, his many friends are
interested to learn.
Maurice Carmichael was admit
ted to Sylvan Grove Hospital
Monday suffering from heat pros
tration. He is recovering nicely
and is to be discharged soon.
Friends of Duane Leverette
will be glad to know that he has
returned home from Griffin Hos
pital and his condition is much
improved.
Lynda Joyce Wilkes had been
admitted to an Atlanta hospital
for surgery, her many friends will
be interested to learn.
Mr. J. L. Townsend is at home
following a four week’s stay in a
nursing home in Atlanta. He is
recuperating nicely.
