Devotional
by rev. ray dunahoo
Pastor, Jackson United
Methodist Church
“And the angel said unto them,
Fear not, for, behold, 1 bring you
good tiding of great joy, which
shall be to all people.”
These words of an angel were
addressed to a few shepherds.
I here was no great crowd gath
ered, neither were the circum
stances provocative of some man’s
elebration. The situation oc
curred while these hard working
men carried out their routine
daily life. Thus the Event that
astounded the world was an
nounced. The Christ Child was
born. God entered the world in a
new and saving way.
Over the past few months a
great event occurred. Man walked
upon the face of tha moon. People
from every walk of life viewed
this spectacle as man’s greatest
step. Scientifically, this has
opened anew frontier of exist
ence. There is one big question
science has not answered: For
what purpose has man cast him
elf into anew world? There are
speculations, dreams and hopes
for anew existence, but this lies
in the area of unexplored dreams.
In the world about us this new
adventure casts a spell of fear.
Some power seeking maniac may
subject the world to all kinds of
fear and harm.
The angel’s proclamation re
leased fear from the lives of the
shepherds. The new adventure,
brought by this giant step of God,
would bring peace. His moments
upon the earth, in the flesh of
Jesus Christ, were filled with pur
pose. The Saviour was born. No
more seeping inner-struggle of
guilt and hopeless frustration
could be done away with. Jesus
Christ the Lord was born to es
tablish the new life. The Kingdom
of God came into the midst of
suffering humanity.
Listen to the angel, “Fear not
. . . for unto you is born this day
. . . a Saviour which is Christ the
Lord.” Anew life ... a New di
rection ... anew dimension of
life. This truly is good tidings of
great joy.

KEEP CHRISTMAS
MERRY AND SAFE
Christmas is a time for gay
decorations and merriment, not
sorrow resulting from a fire in
your home. To keep your holidays
joyous, the Insurance Informa
tion Institute offers these fire
safety tips:
Keep the tree away from fire
places, radiators and heaters.
Place it in a water stand and
water it daily.
Use only flameproof decora
tions.
Don’t set up electric trains or
similar equipment around or near
the tree.
Check sockets and wires of
tree lights to see that they are in
good coridition.
Place the tree so that its lights
can be turned on and off from a
switch located away from the
tree.
Don’t leave tree lights burning
while away from home.
Don’t overload electric outlets.
When putting up decorations
and lights, use a balanced ladder
—never a box, bench or chair.
Teach your children the im
portance of observing these safe
ty precautions.
Devotees Of
Prayer Are
Asked To Sign
Madelyn Murray, the atheist
who has protested prayers in pub
lic schools and succeeded in get
ting the Supreme Court of the
United States to rule them out,
has obtained 27,000 signed letters
protesting the astronaut’s read
ing the Bible from outer space.
She plans to present these to
N.A.S.A. Headquarters, asking
that the men be publicly cen
sured. The Family Radio Broad
cast is asking for 100,000 letters
commending the astronauts.
The Tri-lli-Y Club of Jackson
High School has taken as a pro
ject the collecting of signatures
of people who are concerned and
interesting in letting the people
of N.A.S.A. know they are op
posed to Mrs. Murray’s protest.
If you support this project please
sign below and send to Jackson
High School to Norma Hearn,
chairman of the project, or to
Mrs. Roy Prosser, Tri-Hi-Y advis
or.
Gentlemen:
I personally appreciate and
wholeheartedly support the recent
decision of the astronauts to read
the Bible in space as they orbited
the moon. It should be the right
of every human to publicly ex
press his faith in God and the
Bible without fear of reprisal
from government or any other
power.
