Coach Loy Hutcheson announ
ces that the Jackson Red Devil
basketball teams are under new
coaches this year with Wilson
Bush to coach the boys and Loy
Hutcheson the girls. Hyrum
Pierce will coach the “B” team
boys. The teams have already
played games with Newton Coun
ty who always has a powerhouse
and this year is no exception.
Boys lost 68-45, Girls lost 43-26.
Both Jackson teams went down in
defeat but not without showing
lots of promise for the season.
We feel that by playing strong
teams as Newton County, Rock
dale County, and Pike County,
all of which are not in our region,
we will do better in our own
region play, Mr. Hutcheson said.
The boys have considerable
height this year probably fielding
one of Jackson’s tallest teams
and should develop into a real
fine team.
The girls probably have one
of the youngest teams with only
one senior in a starting position.
They too could develop into a
strong contender.
The following is a roster of the
Jackson High basketball team
for the 1969-70 season.

CITY REQUESTS
OFF STREET PARKING
DURING HOLIDAYS
An appeal has been made by
the Mayor and City Council to
store owners and employees that
during the holiday season off
street parking be utilized so that
more parking places around the
square would be available to cus
tomers and shoppers.
Mayor C. B. Brown Jr. said
that similar requests have been
made during the Thanksgiving
and Christmas Seasons in the past
and that in the main cooperation
has been very good. Mayor Brown
remarked that all citizens are
acutely aware of the parking
problems in Jackson and pointed
out that with the cooperation of
store owners and employees in
using the city parking lot on
North Mulberry Street additional
spaces would be available around
the square for those shoppers
during the always busy and hec
tic Christmas period.
