Two Tone Rat?
You’d Better
Believe It!
Two toned rats! Well, at least
I there was one until E. B. Per
-1 due’s Collie dog ended its life
I Thursday night and brought it to
! the house to show to his master
Friday morning.
The large rodent, believed to
be a Norwegian Rat, was brown
with a vast area on his back and
stomach a snowy white. Mr. Per
due, superintendent at the Jack
son water works, said that he had
never seen a rat with two colors
before nor had anyone else who
viewed the dead rodent in eight
degree weather in the back of a
pickup truck. No one was able
to give any explanation of the
unusual color of the rat unless it
was a mutation of some kind.
PRUNING PECANS
Horticulturist Glenn Taylor of
the Cooperative Extension Ser
vice reminds pecan growers that
stubs remaining from breakage
on overloaded trees should be cut
smoothly, close and parallel to
the main limb or trunk. He says
this will encourage more rapid
and complete healing of the cut.
THE JACKSON PROGRESS-ARGUS, JACKSON, GEORGIA
Tigers Split;
Girls Win,
Boys Lose
BY STEVE BALL
On Saturday night, January
10, the Henderson Tigers took on
the Washington Park Indians of
Monticello with the Tigerettes
coming out victorious and boys
suffering their seventh defeat of
the season.
The Tigerettes won by a score
of 54-38. The Tigerettes held the
lead all through the game mainly
by the play of forward Aretha
Pye. Aretha hit for 37 points and
pulled down nine rebounds. Also,
much credit should be given to
guards Jean Hightower, with 15
rebounds, Daisy Grier, with 9 re
bounds, and Gladys Freeman with
7 rebounds.
Overall it was a great team
effort. Scoring for the girls were
P. Barlow 9, A. Pye 37, R. Law
rence 8. Monticello —E. Whidby
16, A. Thurman 14, J. Harris 1,
C. Griggs 7. Score at half
time was 32-20 for Henderson.
In the boys game it was a dif
ferent story. The Tigers were de
feated by it score of 56-54. Al
though the Tigers lost by only
two points they didn’t display a
good team effort. The Tigers
simply couldn’t find the basket.
The Tigers didn’t score a field
goal until the clock showed 2:31
in the first quarter. On the other
hand, they were simply vicious on
the board during the whole game.
John Sims led the rebounding
with 12, J. W. Jefferson 11, John
Webb 8, and Ollie Woodard 5.
Scoring for the boys were Hen
derson—C. Norris 7, O. Woodard
7, N. Lawson 4, R. Griffin 2, J.
Sims 15, J. W. Jefferson 13, J.
Webb 6. Monticello—S. Hipp 22,
R. Griggs 7, W. Thurman 16, W.
Bostick, C. Lewis 4.
Score at halftime was 24-20
for Monticello.
