THE MIGHTINESS OF GOD’S
LITTLE THINGS
Many a soul pets discouraped
by the sense of its own ineffici
ency. It cannot do preat thinps
as it sees others do, and so feels
inclined to pive up. This arises
from its failure to place the merit
of a thinp upon faithfulness in
little thinps which is God’s meas
ure and has put it upon the
standard of men. Small thinps
in man’s estimation are not al
ways small thinps in God’s sipht.
Many ways by which God has
done miphty thinps would be ip
nored by men and called foolish,
and yet the record of miphty
thinps done by very simple apen
cies stand as a reproof unto us
today. What we need is not so
much preat resources as it is
preat faith by which we will put
into God’s hands what we have.
God had to teach all His ancient
servants this before He could use
them fully.
When He wanted to deliver a
nation, He sent a Moses with a
simple rod; when He desired to
lay flat the walls of wicked Jeri
cho, He sent a Joshua with a
ram’s horn. When He would piven
His own people victory over the
vast army of the Midianites, He
cut down the army of Israel from
thirty-two thousand to three hun
dred and sent them forth under
Gideon with simple lamps and
pitchers. When Jesus would feed
the five thousand, He took a little
boy’s lunch and by His blessinp
and power made a feast for them
all, and afterwards the frapments
were more than the oripinal sup
ply. Oh, that we would learn the
mightiness of little thinps when
put into the hands of God!

Swaying on a limb outside my kitchen, a bird flapped his sleek .A I . i
black wings and curved his throat in a burst of pure beauty. \rJ /< 1 f >
“Watch out!” I wanted to cry. For over by the woodpile Tabby \J yVj
crouched, carved in predatory silence. Stone-like she stared, [s'
as the bird warbled, and even after the songster flashed off in a Y
streak, she sat impassively. ))
How like our Tabby we humans sometimes are. Caught in the Vh £
frenzy of making a living, stalemated with problems, we look \
indifferently at our world. Forgetting that God reveals Himself ''^Y
in simple ways, we overlook the laughter of a child, the smile of a y
stranger, and the flaming colors of our landscape. fp
Your church can show you how to find joy in life again.
Within its fellowship you can learn the happiness which comes from
loving God and serving Him.
