Candidate Thomas E. Johnson
Jr., husband of the former Miss
Cathye Blue of Jackson, Ga., has
made his first solo flight.
The flight was made in a T 34
“Mentor” trainer after five
months of intensive academic,
military, and physical training,
including one month of Primary
Flight Training with Training
Squadron One at Saufley Field,
Naval Auxiliary Air Station, Pen
sacola, Fla.
The “Mentor” is the military’s
version of the civilian Beechcraft
“Bonanza.”
He will continue on to more ad
vanced phases of his flight train
ing for approximately 13 months
before receiving his pilot’s
“Wings of Gold.”
WICHITA FALLS, Tex.—Air
man Mackarthur Whitaker, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Glen J. Whitaker,
R. F. D. 4, Jackson, Ga., has
graduated at Sheppard AFB,
Tex., from the U. S. Air Force
electrical power specialist course.
The ajyman, who learned to
operate and repair diesel engine
generators, is being assigned to
Fort Lee Air Force Station, Va.,
for duty with the Aerospace De
fense Command which protects
the U. S. against hostile aircraft
and missiles.
Airman Whitaker is a 1967
graduate of Jackson High School.

Mrs. T. T. Patrick was hostess
to the Jenkinsburg Garden Club
on Tuesday night. Twelve mem
bers answered roll call. Mrs. T.
R. Sims, president, presided and
also brought the devotional. Mrs.
James Whitaker presented Mrs.
A. V. Maddox of Jackson. She
brought a beautiful program on
the “Thoughts and means of flow
ers and what they express on dif
ferent occasions,” which was
thoroughly enjoyed by all. After
the program concluded all were
invited to the dining room where
the beautifully appointed table
was laden with open faced sand
wiches, assorted cheese, nuts and
cakes. Mrs. Jane Weaver poured
punch. Tall candelabra with burn
ing tapers graced the end of the
table. Husbands of members were
invited to help celebrate the
birthday of Mr. Patrick. Visitors
present were Mr. and Mrs. La
ma Weaver, Mrs. A. V. Maddox,
