Spring Sports
In Full Sway
At JH School
Spring sports at Jackson High
School—track, baseball, and golf
—are in full swing with a track
meet at Gordon Wednesday,
March 25th, kicking off the
sports schedule.
Athletic Director Loy Hutche
son said that “we plan to have
a track meet each week on the
Jackson track.” Coach Hyrum
Pierce, with the assistance of
the track squad, has Jackson’s
clay track in fine condition with
a newly added concrete discus
and shot throwing area. Coach
Hutcheson said that the track
will be in the best condition since
it was built.
Baseball Coach Wilson Bush re
ports over 30 boys tried out for
the baseball team but that the
squad had been reduced to 21
with competition getting keener
all the time. Coach Bush said only
18 boys will be carried on the
squad which will play 14 games.
Coach Hutcheson announced
that spring football practice, nor
mally held during the month of
March, is scheduled for May.
Practice will begin on May 4th
and will be concluded on May
25th with the annual J-Day Game.
Mr. Hutcheson said that the foot
ball practice is being scheduled
later this year to allow more con
centration on spring sports such
as track and baseball.
In past years, Coach Hutcheson
recalled, we had only two to three
days preparation before our first
track meet or baseball game. This,
lack of practice was detrimental
to our spring practice, but this
year we feel the school can field
more representative teams with
adequate practice since grid prac
tice has been moved to May.
Coach Hutcheson said another
reason for having spring football
