Many Qualifying for Primary
A flurry of candidates, ready,
willing and able to offer their

To date the three-man board
of Butts County Commissioners
of Roads and Revenues has drawn
the largest number with four

and housing contractor; and
Hammond Barnes, incumbent
commissioner.

office of Sheriff, including in
cumbent Sheriff Hugh C. Polk.

Miss Watkins said this week
that the two new members will be
qualified and presently unoppos

candidate for Butts County Tax
Commissioner. Mrs. Hearn is
presently Butts County Tax Col

Tax Commissioner. David P.
Ridgeway, Clerk of Butts Super
ior Court, has qualified and is
offering for re-election. Butts
County Ordinary Luther J. Wash
ington is another candidate seek
ing re-election. John Sherrell,
Butts County Coroner, has paid
his fee and will offer for another
term. Donald B. Montgomery,
Justice of the Peace for the 612th
District, will be a candidate to
succeed himself.
Under the rules of the Georgia
Democratic Executive Committee
and the Butts County Democrat
ic Executive Committee, each
candidate is required to certify
that he is qualified to offer
and hold the office for which he
is a candidate, that he is a Dem
ocrat, that he pledges to abide
by the rules of the two afore
mentioned committees and to
abide by the results of the pri
mary election on August Bth.
It is anticipated that other in
cumbent office holders will qual
ify within the next few days,
though the number of candidates
is less than generally believed at
this date. But, as one politician
quipped this week, “it’s a long
Ifimei before June 14th.”
