W. R. Wise
Passes In
Macon Sunday
Mr. Warren Roscoe Wise, 48,
of 101 James Street, Warner
Robins, died at the Medical
Center of Central Georgia
early Sunday morning, August
sth, after a brief illness.
Born July 2, 1925 in Butts
County, Mr. Wise was the son
of the late Mr. Joseph Wise of
Butts County and Mrs. Mary
Lee Meredith Wise Loper of
Warner Robins, who survives.
He was a member of Second
Baptist Church in Jackson and
a veteran of World War 11.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday afternoon at three
o’clock from the Second
Baptist Church in Jackson with
Rev. Eugene Calhoun officia
ting. Interment was in Pepper
ton Cemetery with Sherrell
Funeral Home in charge of
arrangements.
Mr. Wise is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Helen Byars Wise of
Warner Robins; a son, Danny
Wise of Jackson; two daugh
ters, Miss Rebecca Wise of
Warner Robins and Miss
Pamela Wise of Warner
Robins; mother and step
father, Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Loper of Warner Robins; a
brother, Horace Wise, of
Jackson; several nieces and
nephews.

guests of Mrs. Ira Butler.
Visiting Wednesday of last
week with Mr. and Mrs. M R.
Towner were Mrs. Estelle
Mann of Griffin and Mrs. Ben
Mann and Mark of Riverdale.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Barabas
attended the Braves-Cincinnati
double-header at the Stadium
in Atlanta Tuesday evening of
last week.
Mrs. Martin Bradshaw and
Tripp of Rome spent several
days last week with her
mother, Mrs. Fred Caldwell.
Mr. and Mrs. Grady Carlisle,
Reggie Letson, Mrs. Larry
Strickland and Mark Strick
land spent several days
camping at Fort Clinch,
Florida last week. Sam
Strickland, who is stationed in
Jacksonville, joined them.
Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Burford
of Austell and Richard Burford
of Atlanta visited during the
weekend with Mrs. Ruby
Burford at her home on North
Oak Street.

Funeral services for Mr.
William Edga (Ed) Johnson,
88, of 1328 Avon Ave., SW,
Atlanta, were held at three
o’clock Saturday, July 28th, at
Carmichael’s Chapel in East
Point with interment in
Greenwood Cemetery in At
lanta.
Mr. Johnson died Thursday,
July 26th, from hardening of
the arteries, an enlarged heart
and liver trouble. Born October
29, 1884 in Henry County, he
was the son of the late Mr. John
F. Johnson, Sr. and Mrs.
Miriah Wood Johnson, both of
Henry County.
He was a retired deputy
sheriff of Fulton and DeKalb
counties.
Mr. Johnson was a charter
member of Oakland City
United Methodist Church, a
charter member and past
master of Oakland City Lodge
No. 373 F&AM and a past
patron of Chapter No. 260 of the
Order of the Eastern Star. He
also was a member of the
Georgia Peace Officers Asso
ciation.
Survivors include his widow,
Mrs. Eva H. Johnson of
Atlanta; three daughter, Mrs.
Evelyn Beville of Hapeville,
Mrs. Zelma Culpepper of
Morrow and Mrs. Martha
Slaton of Stockbridge; two
sons, Allen Johnson of Red Oak
and George W. Johnson of
Melvin, Fla; two brothers, J.
B. Johnson, Sr. of Atlanta and
John F. Johnson of Jackson;
several grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Brookshire,
95, Passes
On July 30th
Funeral services for Mrs.
Annie Morris Brookshire, 95, of
1373 Skyhaven Road, S. E.,
were conducted at two o’clock
Wednesday, August Ist, from
Ward’s Chapel in Atlanta with
interment in Crest Lawn
Memorial Park. Ward’s Chapel
of Atlanta was in charge of
arrangements.
Mrs. Brookshire died Mon
day, July 30th, and was the
widow of Henry O. Brookshire.
Survivors include two daugh
ters, Mrs. 0. F. Powell of
Atlanta and Miss Katie
Brookshire of Jenkinsburg;
four sons, J. A. Brookshire of
Atlanta, J. W. Brookshire of
Woodstock, Lloyd Brookshire
of Jacksonville, Fla. and A. D.
Brookshire of Belle Glade,
Fla.; sister, Mrs. Ada Schinall
of White.

Spend the day guests of Mr.

Cynthia last Tuesday were his
brother and his wife, Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond Tribble, of
Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. Horace
Washington of Morrow, Mrs.
Bernice Cook and Mrs. Bob
Webb of Atlanta visited briefly
with relatives in Worthville on
their way home from visiting
Mr. L. R. Washington in the VA
Hospital in Milledgeville last
Tuesday. Mr. Washington is
somewhat improved.
Mrs. Emma Yancey, Char
les, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Yancey,
and boys, visited Mr. and Mrs.
Lester Yancey in Jasper
County Sunday afternoon.
They report that Mr. Yancey is
home from the hospital
following surgery and doing
fine.

Sunday afternoon were her
children and grandchildren,
Mr. and Mrs. Grady Wilson
and Nancy of Decatur, and Mr.
and Mrs. Lewis White and
Myron of Covington.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Pope and
four children of Sanford, Fla.
visited Mrs. J. H. Pope Friday
afternoon. The Pope family
also visited Mr. and Mrs.
Roland Pope, Mr. and Mrs.
Jake Mason and Mrs. W. S.
White.
Sheree Butler spent last
week in Twirling Camp at
Valdosta State College in
Valdosta.
Mitzi Butler visited Angela
Jordan of Conyers last week
end.

of the Cedar Rock Community,
and sister, Mrs. Walter

Mr. and Mrs. Douglas
Mitchell of Macon spent the
weekend with Mrs. Nellie
Cochran. Together they visited
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Johnson in
Henry County. Saturday after
noon and on Sunday afternoon
they called on Mr. and Mrs. L.
H. Duke at Lake Sinclair.

Training Union of Worthville
Baptist Church enjoyed dinner
and fellowship at Tomlin’s
Restaurant Friday evening.

Miss Susan Fletcher celebra

day, August 2nd, with a
cook-out and pajama party at
her home on Covington Street.
A poolside hamburger supper
and birthday cake were
enjoyed along with swimming.

Passes In
North Carolina
Funeral services for Mr.
Homer Garfield Bunn, 79, who
died Sunday morning in
Fayetteville, N. C., were
conducted Monday morning in
Fayetteville, N. C. after which
his body was brought to
Haisten’s Funeral Home in
Griffin. Graveside services
were conducted from the Oak
Hill Cemetery at two o’clock
Tuesday afternoon with Rev.
Ben Stone officiating. Haisten
Funeral Home of Griffin was in
charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bunn was a former
resident of Griffin and was
reared in Butts County.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. MaudDoreman Bunn; six
daughters, Mrs. Kate Buckner,
Mrs. Lillian Kilgore, Mrs.
Janice Payne, Mobile, Ala.,
Miss Deborah Bunn of Fayette
ville, N. C., Mrs. Hilda Gray
Truett of Nashville, Tenn. and
Mrs. Jewel Cawson of Mem
