GERALD KERSEY AND GATOR
Baby Gator
Discovered
In Jackson
Jackson Lake is far too north
to be the habitat of alligators.
Nevertheless, a 3’2” baby
alligator was discovered and
caught by G. W. Grier as it
attempted to cross the road
near his residence at Jackson
Lake on Wednesday, October
10th.
The captured gator was
turned over to Ranger Gerald
Kersey of the State Game and
Fish Department. Mr. Grier
lives in the South River area of
Jackson Lake.
Ranger Kersey said he
believed the gator was proba
bly released by someone in
Jackson Lake since gators are
not known to inhabit the lake.
Mr. Kersey said that the gator
will be transferred to an area
in South Georgia, perhaps the
Okefenokee Swamp, where it
will be released and more
likely to survive. Alligators for
a time were placed on the
endangered species. Poachers
have greatly reduced the
number of gators in Florida,
Georgia and Louisiana.

Customer Service
Featured By A&P
In New Ad Program
The Great Atlantic and
Pacific Tea Company is
launching an advertising cam
paign to initiate anew program
that emphasizes customer
service.
Isidore Lefkowitz Elgort,
Inc. created the program for
A&P, starting with the broad
cast and print advertising and
carrying the message through
to store level.
The theme line, “We Won’t
Stop Trying Till You Say,
Weeeeeeo!” follows the adver
tising theme used by A&P to
announce its new WEO stores,
while at the same time signals
an extended effort by its
employees to make customer
shopping easier.
An integrated campaign of
TV and Radio commercials
will start running October 15th
in over 100 key markets.
Newspaper advertising will
also carry the theme in
markets throughout the coun
try.
“The advertising puts our
store people on the spot in
relation to customer service
expectations,’’ said A. L.
Hogewood, Vice President of
the Atlanta Division.
So it was important to follow
through with them to spur their
efforts to provide the standard
of service our ads are
promising.
To do that, the Agency
created a sales film for
presentation to Managers and
other store personnel, an
instructional booklet for all
employees and posters remind
ing the organization of its aims.
Additionally store banners and
other point-of-sale materials --
including employee buttons
that say “I Won’t Stop Trying
Till You Say Weeeeeeo! ” - will
be used in the totally
integrated marketing pro
gram.
“We believe,” Mr. Hogewood
said, “That it’s not enough to
offer customers good food and
good prices, they are entitled to
the good, friendly service they
used to get from the
neighborhood store. A&P start
ed as a small neighborhood
store, and we’re trying to
recapture that same feeling.”
Tony Isidore, President of I.
L. E., had this to add about the
new program.
“It’s this kind of totally
integrated marketing ap
proach that we think helps an
advertiser get twice as much
for his advertising dollar. It’s
not enough today to create
advertising that talks to
customers alone. Advertising
has to work internally, as well,
to build up the spirit and
improve the efforts of the
company doing the advertis
ing. We think this should be a
very exciting campaign, and
more importantly, we think the
customer will like it, too.”
