John Long spent the weekend
with Earl and David Chestnut.
Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Craig last week was his
brother, Mr. Grady Craig, of
Larado, Texas. He came
because of the passing of their
aunt, Mrs. Jesse Lee Rape, of
McDonough. Also visiting the
Craigs over the weekend were
Mrs. Willie Mae Craig, Miss
Louise Craig and Mr. Alan
Rape, all of McDonough, also
the children and grandchil
dren.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie King,
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne King and
Doug went shopping in Macon
Saturday afternoon and dined
at the La Vista.
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Marsh
and children, Robert, Marie
and Larry, Jr. visited in
Birmingham, Ala. over the
weekend with her sister, Miss
Barbara McKenna. Also with
her brother, Mr. Gerard
McKenna, erf San Josa, Calif,
who met them there and
returned home with the Marshs
for a visit through the holidays.
Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Elliott and
Mrs. Hollis Duke visited Mr.
Sanford Elliott at Middle
Georgia Hospital in Macon
Friday. Mr. Elliott is doing fine
and is expected to return home
Monday.

afternoon with Mr. and Mrs.
Curtis Johnson.

Americus, arrived Wednesday
to spend the holidays with his
parents, Rev. and Mrs. R. W.
Jenkins. Other members of the
family, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Glover and children of Hender
son, N. C. will be guests of the
Jenkins.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Jenkins
will have as holiday guests
their daughter, Miss Brenda
Jenkins, student at Georgia
Southwestern. She will arrive
Wednesday from Americus.

speedy recovery and that she
can soon return home.

Hollis Duke on the passing of
his brother, Mr. Davis Duke,
of Atlanta. Also to Mr. Larry
Morgan on the passing of his
father, Mr. Lawrence Mor
gan. May the Lord comfort the
entire family of each.

III!” Mrs. Redman, a widely
known local history authority,
states Mrs. Jarman is a
prominent and widely known
author of Worcester. England.

REFERENDUM DELAYED
. The Henry County Referen
dum which had been incorrect
ly announced for December
4th. has been postponed and
will be held at a later date, if at
all.
Oratorical
Contest
Plans Made
Private and public school
officials met with American
Legion, Post 102, representa
tives at Russell’s in Locust
Grove Wednesday night to plan
the oratorical contest held
annually in February. High
school students across the
nation compete in 8-10 minute
prepared and 3-5 minute
extemporaneous speeches on
some part of the U. S.
Constitution.
National awards total $35,000
with an SB,OOO scholarship
given the winner. Local
contestants in Butts will
compete for $25.00 first prize,
sls second and $lO third.
Instructors and principals
indicated students are already
working on research to make
what appears to be the best
year in Butts County.
High school students in
terested in competing may
contact English or Social
Studies departments in the
schools and-or Joe Brown,
local merchant, or other
Legionnaires for additional
information.
