guests last Tuesday her
daughters, Mrs. Robert Wil
son of Decatur and Mrs. John
Fletcher of Tucker. Sunday
afternoon guests were Mr.
and Mrs. Alton Pope of
Jackson and Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Wilson of Decatur.
Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Tribble
spent several days last week
with their brother and his
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Whaley
Tribble of Carlton.
Mr. arid Mrs. Harold
Cochran had as guests on
Sunday their daughter, Mrs.
David Burford and Carin of
Flovilla, and during the
afternoon Mrs. Cochran,
Mrs. Burford and Carin
visited in Covington.
Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Avery
had as a spend the day guest
Sunday their sister, Mrs.
Eloise Guess of College Park,
with their daughter and her
family, Mr. and Mrs. Tom
Bell, Don and Johnny of
Atlanta joining them in the
afternoon and evening for
supper.
Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Ireland
had as guest last Thursday
Steve Earwood of Atlanta
and on Sunday evening Mrs.
Bob Woodall and Myra
Woodall visited them.
Mrs. Forest Cook of
Milledgeville spent the week
end with her father, Mr. B. F.
Hamlin.
Mrs. Bobby Sealey, Tina,
Sherry and David Sealey and
Bonnie Smith spent Saturday
in Griffin where they visited
Play Presented
Here Nov. 11th
“The Story Machine”, the
first Special Arts Project
production in Butts County
opened November ll at the
Henderson Elementary
School Cafetorium. The play,
performed by Henderson
Elementary fourth, fifth,
sixth graders and directed by
artist in residence, Charley
Helms, is based on an
improvisational technique.
The plot of the play
includes three main charac
ters; a king, a queen and a
court jester, and a story
machine ( a parachute). The
story machine is turned on
and before it can be stopped
it produces three stories: the
“Ugly Duckling”, “Anase
the Spiderman” (an African
folk tale) and “The King’s
Fountain.”
The director of the play,
Charly Helms, a professional
actor, singer and dancer is
currecntly conducting a
theatre assistance program
in the Butts County System
under ESSA’s (Emergency
School Aid Act) Special Arts
Project which is designed to
promote better communica
tion among the races. Under
the arts project, artists in
residence are visiting and
working with twelve Georgia
school systems, Butts County
being one.
Two performances of “The
For Justice of Peace
I am a candidate for the office
of J. P. in the 612th* District of Butts
County.
I have been a resident and tax
payer in Butts County for the past
11 years, and also I am active in
church and community activities.
I feel I am qualified for this office
since I have a degree in law, and I
will concentrate on all duties of the
J. P. office.

spending three weeks at their
vacation home on Lake

with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. L. C. Tribble.

Washington had as guest on
Sunday their daughter, Janet
Washington of Atlanta and
during the afternoon their
sister, Mrs. Eloise Guess
visited them.
Mrs. Minnie Lee Hodges
had as a guest last Tueaday
her daughter, Mrs. Tom
Collins, of Decatur, to spend
the day.
Mrs. W. S. White had as
spend the day guests last
Wednesday her daughters,
Mrs. E. M. McCart of
Covington, Mrs. Grady Wil
son and Mrs. Phillip Green,
both of Decatur, and on
Saturday Mrs. White had as
supper guests Mr. and Mrs.
Grady Wilson of Decatur.
Guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Jake Mason last Tuesday
were their sister Mrs. Clyde
Norton and Mr. Norton of
Hapeville and on Wednesday
evening Mrs. Clyde Parker of
Jackson visited them.

Walter Knowles of Fincher
ville Community Sunday
afternoon.
Story Machine” took place
November 11 and 12. A third
performance is scheduled for
November 13 at 1:45 at the
Henderson Elementary
School Cafetorium. A per
formance for the general
public will take place
November 14 at 7:30 p.m.
also at the Henderson
Elementary School Cafe
torium.
Future productions, under
the directorship of Helms are
being planned including two
performances by profes
sional theatre companies
which will be open to the
community at no charge.

Man of Year Nominees
Sought By Kiwanians
The Jackson Kiwanis Club is requesting
nominations for its Man of the Year program, held
annually around the middle of December.
Persons wishing to submit nominations are
asked to do so in letters to Doyle Jones, Jr., P. O.
Box 249, Jackson, Ga. on or before five o’clock
November 14th.
The Man of the Year program was
originated in 1969 by the Business and Public
Affairs Committee with Doyle Jones, Jr. as
chairman.
Nominations are sought from individuals,
civic clubs or any other groups. Oral nominations
will not be accepted. They must be in writing with
the letters including a resume of the nominee’s
service to the community.
The first Man of the Year in 1969 was
Hampton L. Daughtry. Others included the late
Robert Park Newton, Sr., P. H. Weaver, Doyle
Jones, Jr., Maurice W. Carmichael, and Daivd P.
Ridgeway, Sr.
