Rev. McAfee
Died In
Lakeland
REV. H. H. McAFEE
Rev. H. H. McAfee, one of
the leaders in the Indian
Springs Holiness Camp
Ground Association and
president of the Florida
Camp Meeting Association at
Lakeland, Fla. died Tuesday
morning, November 25th, at
a Lakeland hosptial after
suffering a heart attack at
his residence Saturday night.
Mr. McAfee was founder
and only president the
Florida Camp Meeting Asso
ciation ever had. The Florida
Camp was born at Indian
Springs when a group of men
met together and agreed that
camp meeting could be held
in the winter in Florida and
in Georgia in the summer,
according to Mrs. J. B.
Hardwick, Mr. McAfee’s
daughter.
Mr. McAfee had been
coming to Indian Springs
Camp Meeting for almost
sixty years and he worked for
the Methodist Conference in
the State of Florida. The late
Dr. H. C. Morrison asked Mr.
McAfee to come to work for
Asbury College and later he
worked for Asbury Seminary
for some 25 years.
Born April 13, 1887 in
Tennessee, Mr. McAfee
attended Asbury College
where he met his late wife
and they moved to Atlanta
and later to Florida.
He was a school teacher, a
pastor, president of the
camp, and a member of the
Asbury faculty.
Funeral services will be
held Friday afternoon at two
o’clock from the new
Tabernacle at the Florida
Holiness Camp.
Mr. McAfee is survived by
two daughters, Mrs. J. B.
(Mary) Hardwick of Lake
land, Fla., and Mrs. Kathryn
Start of Philadelphia, Pa.; a
son, Henderson Hayden
McAfee, Jr. of Houston,
Texas; five grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren.

Acworth
Mrs. Mary B. Rose, 48, of
6627 Wagon Wheel Drive,
Acworth, died Monday.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday at the Acworth
Presbyterian Church, with
the body placed in state at 2
p.m. Rev. Jack Walker and
Rev. Jack Mummert offcia
ted. Burial was in the
Georgia Memorial Park
Cemetery.
Surviving are husband,
Alvin B. Rose; mother, Mrs.
Irma Byars, both of Ac
worth; two stepchildren,
Mrs. Sue Gial, Warner
Robins, Capt. Steve Rose, Ft.
Benning.
Collins Funeral Home,
Acworth, was in charge of
arrangements.
