Mrs. Evelyn Awtry of
Jackson announces the en
gagement and forthcoming
marriage of her daughter,
Melanie Kay, to Robert
Davis Wells, son of Mrs.
Nora C. Wells and the late
Mr. Paul Wells of Jenkins
burg.
Miss Awtry is a 1975
graduate of Jackson High
School.
Mr. Wells is a 1973
graduate of Jackson High
School and a 1975 graduate of
Gordon Junior College.
The wedding will take
place February 27th at
seven-thirty o’clock in the
evening at the Second Baptist
Church in Jackson. No
invitations will be sent. All
friends and relatives are
invited to attend.

AARP TO MEET
FEBRUARY 16
The local Chapter of the
AARP will have its regular
monthly meeting on Monday,
February 16th, at 3 p.m. at
the Second Baptist Church,
Jackson.
Upsilon Chapter Delta Kappa
Gamma Met In Forsyth
Upsilon Chapter, Delta
Kappa Gamma Society, met
at the Quality Court Motel in
Forsyth for the February
meeting. Thirty-eight mem
bers from Butts, Lamar,
Monroe, Pike, and Spalding
Counties attended. The presi
dent, Mrs. Martha P. Elliott
of Barnesville, led the group
in the Collect, followed by the
Delta Kappa Gamma song.
The secretary, Mrs. Bobbie
Rainey, called the roll and
read the minutes.
Mrs. Elliott announced the
State Board meeting for
February 28 at the Ramada
Inn in Macon. On Friday
night, February 27, a
banquet will be held honoring
Miss Eva Gardner, who held
the position of Executive
Secretary for Psi State for
many years. The memorial
quilt square was done by
Miss Anne Hill Drewry, and
each chapter was assessed
$2.00 for expenses in making
up the quilt. The treasurer,
Mrs. Nell Wynne, reported a
balance of $189.01.
Membership chairman
Susie Blanton announced the
resignation of Mrs. Wynette
Bryant. Qualifications and
information concerning four
new members was submitted
by sponsoring members, and
they were elected unani
mously.
Community Services chair
man, Mrs. Doris Grant,
announced that some 80
cards had been sent to people
in convalescent homes in the
area.
District 111 will meet on
May 8 at Gordon Junior
College, with Dr. Pearl Nix,
District Director, in charge.
Committees were announced
by President Elliott, and she
urged all members to attend.

AZALEA CLUB
The Azalea Garden Club
held its January meeting at
the home of Mrs. Mary Nelle
Robertson.
Dr. William Mitchell pre
sented interesting slides of
his trip to Germany. Much
was shown of the ornately
constructed and decorative
cathedrals, palaces, and
buildings.
Mrs. Janie Carmichael
also presented interesting
and colorful slides of her trip
to a garden nursery that
raises and develops various
bulbs in Holland. This
nursery had many flowers
twice the size that you would
ordinarily see.
After the interesting pro
gram the business meeting
was presided over by the
president, Barbara Kilgo.
Some members are planning
to attend workships at
Callaway Gardens in the
Spring.
Mrs. Robertson, also
serving as co-hostess, served
delicious refreshments to the
eleven members present and
the two visitors.

on Thursday, January 29th,
at the Jackson Clubhouse for
the benefit of Mrs. Jack
Cook. The auxiliary wishes to
thank all those who patron
ized, as well as those who
made monetary gifts, there
by making this worthy cause
a success.
