Butts County In
Teen Pageant
Selected to be finalists in
the 1976 Miss Georgia
Teen-Ager Pageant to be
held at The Grand Opera
House, Macon, March 12 thru

"Wash Pot'
Stew Served
By Boosters
Old fashioned, cooked in
“wash pots” chicken stew
will be served to the paying
public on Saturday, Feb
ruary 21st., from 5 p.m. to 8
p.m. The affair is sponsored
by the Butts County Athletic
Boosters Club.
Stew will be served by the
bowl or by the quart in the
Jackson School lunchroom.
Virgil Smith is slated to be
the chief cook and his wife is
general chairman of the
project.
The stew will be sold at a
price of 60 cents per bowl.
Those desiring to purchase
stew to take home are asked
to bring their own containers.
Homemade cakes and pies
will also be offered for sale.
Be an athletic supporter!
Support your school athletes
and enjoy a bowl of “wash
pot stew.”

Miss Georgia Teen-Ager, will
crown the new Queen.
Contestants from all over
the state will be competing
for the title of Miss Georgia
Teen-Ager. The reigning
Miss National Teen-Ager is
Kimberly Ann Jensen, Cald
well, Idaho. Each contestant
accepted will be requested to
participate in the Volunteer
Community Service Pro
gram of the pageant. This
program teaches teen-agers
to share and to participate in
school and civic affairs. A
Mini-Modeling Charm
Course will be given during
the weekend of the pageant.
The winner of the Miss
Georgia Teen-Ager Pageant
will receive a scholarship,
other prizes and an all
expense paid trip to compete
in the Miss National Teen-
Ager Pageant in Atlanta. Ten
thousand dollars in cash
scholarships will be awarded
at the National Pageant.
Contestants will be judged
on scholastic achievement
leadership, poise-personality
and beauty. There is no swin
suit or talent competition.
Each contestant will recite
a 100 word “Essay” on the
subject, “What’s Right About
America”.
Miss Brittain, 17, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. A. Allan
Brittain of Jackson, is being
sponsored by the Jackson
Flower Shop and Mclntosh
State Bank. Her hobbies
include dancing, cheerlead
ing, and playing the guitar.
Miss Campbell, age 14, is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Darwin L. Campbell of
Jackson. Her sponsors are
Pace’s Flower Shop, Mr. and
Mrs. Dan Fears, Weaver
Insurance Agency, and
WJGA Radio. Her hobbies
include skating, playing
piano, and swimming.
Miss Shaw, 17, is sponsored
by the Jackson Progress-
Argus and C&S Bank of
Jackson. She is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. James C.
Shaw of Jackson and enjoys
dancing, sewing, working
with all kinds of sports, and
mostly meeting new people.
Miss Phillips, 14, is the
daughter of Mrs. Vikki
Phillips of Jackson. Her
sponsors are Dr. James C.
Howell, Richard Milam,
Carmichael Insurance
Agency and David’s Volks
wagen Service, all of
Jackson. Her hobbies include
cooking, swimming, skiiing
and softball.
Miss Watts, 16, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert L.
Watts of Jackson, is being
sponsored by Polka Dot
Lounge of Indian Springs,
Hodges Hardware, Parrish
Drug Cos., The Fashion Shop,
and PMC E-Z Mart. Her
hobbies are reading, sewing,
and playing tennis.

Kiwanis
Kapers
March 13
The Jackson Kiwanis
Club’s third annual Kiwanis
Kapers is scheduled to be
held Saturday, March 13, at
7:30p.m. at the Jackson High
School Auditorium. The
talent show for the youth of
Butts County is co-sponsored
this year by the Jackson
Kiwanis Club and the
Jackson Theatre Guild.
Talented young people will
compete for recognition and
trophies according to their
ages. The groups will be
broken down into three age
categories: 1-6 years, 7-9

The senior division winner
will be eligible for competing
at the district and state
levels. Tryouts will be held
Saturday, February 28, at the
Van Deventer Youth Center
at 2:00 p.m.
Tickets for the event are
available from any Key Club
member at a cost of 50 cents
each.
Talent applications will be
available at all of the
principals’ offices in all of the
schools in the county.
Completed applications
should be handed in at the
window at the Jackson Post
Office no later than 2:00
p.m., February 28.

Parents-Student
Basketball Game
At ISA Feb. 20
Indian Springs Academy
will have its first annual
parent-student basketball
game on Friday, February
20th, at the school gym. The
girls will begin at 7 p.m. with
the boys game immediately
following.
Admission will be SI.OO for
adults and 50 cents for
students and children.
This should be an especial
ly light-hearted and enjoy
able game. According to
Coach Roger Nix, this will be
your only chance to see all
the “Side Line Pros” in
action.
