Wright
Selected For
State Comittees
Mrs. Geraldine Wright,
Jackson High School math
teacher, has recently been
appointed to three commit
tees at the state level.
After an extensive nomina
tion process by, including
professional associations, the
Georgia Teacher Education
Council and the staff of the
Georgia Department of Edu
cation in the areas of
curriculum, leadership and
development, Geraldine
Wright was selected for
appointment to the ad hoc
committee for the teaching
field of mathematics (grades
7 - 12).
The ad hoc committee will
assist National Evaluation
Systems, Inc. (NES), which
has been contracted by the
state of Georgia to develop,
field test and validate ten
teaching field criterion
referenced tests. The tests
are used for initial certifica
tion of teachers in Georgia.
The committee will critique
products, monitor progress
and finally recommend ap
proval of the final tests
developed by NES.
The committee will func
tion for 18 months; its initial
meeting is scheduled for
February 27.
Mrs. Wright will serve on
another committee set up to
revise the mathematics state
curriculum guide. This guide
serves as the basis for the
curriculum that will be
taught in Georgia public
schools. The first meeting of
this committee will be March
19.
She has also been asked to
serve on the Selection
Committee for the Gover
nor’s Honors Program in the
field of mathematics. There

the program. Of these, about
400 students are selected to
attend the summer program.

semi-finalists and then inter

selection depends upon the
written material submitted
and the personal interviews.

interviewing the applicants
at Weslyan College, Satur
