City and County Organize
Their Own Rescue Squad
The City of Jackson and
Butts County have organized
a Jackson-Butts County
Rescue Squad, divorced
themselves from the State
Civil Defense effort and
appointed James Shaw and
Virgil Pace as co-directors of
the local rescue team.
Announcement of the new
organization to handle emer
gency situations was made
Friday by Butts County
Commissioner W. A. Duke,
Jr. and Jackson Mayor C. B.
Brown.
The re-organization came
about following the recent
resignation of John Chiap
petta as local civil defense
officer and to avoid the
burdensome paperwork re
quirements of the State Civil
Defense office, Duke pointed
out.
Costs of the City and
County will run SSO per
month each until working

Many recipes call for
“meat stock” or “meat
broth”. It is a good idea to
save your own, rather than
buy it at the grocery store. Of
course, boiling your own
meat bones is an excellent
way to get thin meat broth.
Baking meat, such as pork
chops or chicken in a liquid
made from Worchestershire
sauce, sherry, green onions,
lemon juice, and salt
and pepper is the best way to
make your own consomme’.

These funds will be used to
provide gasoline and main
tenance costs for the three
emergency vehicles used by
the Rescue Squad.
Listed as persons autho
rized to call the rescue team
into action were the Butts
County Sheriff or Chief
Deputy, City of Jackson
Police Chief or Assistant
Chief, State Game and Fish
Ranger, Mayor of Jackson or
any Butts County Commis

The Rescue Squad will
respond as a unit to all
situations involving missing
persons, drownings on any
waterway in Butts County,
all types of local disasters,
natural or otherwise, and any
city or county function where
needed and requested to
assist.
Calls that will be respond
ed to on an individual mem
ber basis include requests
jelly-like consistency and
delicious flavor, since it also
contains meat drippings.
Also, preparing meat in this
manner is better for you
health-wise and so much
easier to fix. Save your own
consomme’ and broth. Just
refrigerate in a covered
plastic container. The fat will
come to the top, of course,
but you can skim it. Plan to
do this so you will have your
consomme’ handy to try this
delicious recipe:

THE MAGNOLIA
Contrary to popular opin
ion, Southern magnolia trees
grow fast. That is, if they are
planted and maintained right.
Gerald Smith, Extension
horticulturist, says it’s possi
ble for a four-foot magnolia
to grow to 20 feet in 10 years
under ideal conditions. Keep
this in mind when selecting a
location for your tree, and
give it plenty of room to
grow.
