Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Bradley
attended the 25th wedding
anniversary of Mr. and Mrs.
T. W. Cleveland in Locust
Grove iast Sunday afternoon.
Visitors at various times
last week of Mr. and Mrs. C.
L. Bradley were Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Bradley and Mr.
and Mrs. J. D. McDonough,
all of Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. Thurmon
Mullis and Billy were
camping at High Falls State
Park last week with Mr. and
Mrs. Jerry Hunter and
Jennifer of Atlanta.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Thur
man of Independence, Mo.
were weekend guests of Rev.
and Mrs. R. W. Jenkins. Mr.
Thurman met with the Music
Committee of Macedonia
Church for a possible call as
Minister of Youth and Music.
He led the choir in the song
service Sunday morning,
also rendering two solos
immediately preceding the
preaching hour.
The Vacation Bible School
enrolled 100 boys and girls
with an average attendance
of 86. It w’as a successful
week with a splendid group of
dedicated workers.
Mrs. Annie Beal, Mrs.
Annie Taylor and Scott
Thurston spent Saturday at
the summer cottage of Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Mayhue on
Lake Sinclair.
Mr. and Mrs. Carter
Morton and children of Cairo
were visiting Carter’s
parents. Mr. and Mrs. W. C.
Morton, during the weekend
and attended worship ser
vices at Macedonia Sunday
morning.
Mrs. Annie Beal has
returned home after spend
ing several weeks with
relatives in Atlanta.
Rev. and Mrs. Charles
Risher and son left last week
for a two weeks vacation,
visiting relatives in Virginia
and North Carolina. In the
absence of Rev. Risher, the
sevices at Stark United
Methodist Church were con
ducted by Rev. W. R. Smith,
retired minister, living on
Jackson Lake.
Mr. and Mrs. Phillip
Bunch. Misses Debra and
Denise Bunch, and Mrs. Lena
Bunch attended the Chap
man Father’s Day reunion at
Indian Springs last Sunday.
Mrs. Billy Cook and Mrs.
Lena Bunch went over to the
Boy Scout Family Night at
Camp Thunder, near Molena,
on Friday night. Randy Cook
had attended the week’s
camp and was given special
recognition for the greatest
improvement in swimming.
Mr. Troy Allen was a
visitor to Macon on Wednes
day.
Billy Mullis left Monday to
spend two weeks with his
siter, Mrs. Richard Branch,
and family in Atlanta.
Rev. and Mrs. Bill Whit
latch and children are on
vacation. They will spend a
part of the time at Wake
Forest, N. C., where Rev.
Whitlatch is planning to enter
the Baptist Seminary in late
summer.

Monday evening at the home
of Mrs. Laura Wright.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Mayhue, Chuck and Renee of
Gray and Donnie Thompson,
also of Gray, were guests
Thursday of Mrs. Annie
Taylor.
Mrs. Ina Cawthon is a
patient at Georgia Baptist
Hospital and friends will be
glad to know that her
condition seems to be
improving.
A number of Sunday School
teachers and officers went by
church bus to an Associated
Sunday School meeting at
Logwall Church, in Monroe
County, Monday night. Rev.
Jenkins was bus driver for
the trip.
While waiting for their new
place of residence to be
vacated, Mr. and Mrs.
Harold Young, for the
present, are residing with
Mr. and Mrs. Neal Allen. Mr.
and Mrs. Young have lived in
Jackson for a number of
years and are moving to their
newly purchased home on
Route 16.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Morgan
of Atlanta visited Mr. and
Mrs. C. T. Burress on
Monday.
Services For
Homer C. Day
Held Sunday
Funeral services for Mr.
Homer Curtis Day of Route 2,
Jackson, were conducted
Sunday morning at 11 o’clock
from the chapel of Sherrell
Funeral Home. The Rev.
Lannie Smith officiated with
interment in Macedonia
Baptist Church cemetery in
Cleburn, Alabama. Sherrell
Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
Mr. Day died about 11:15
Thursday night, June 24th, at
St. Joseph Hospital in
Atlanta after being a patient
there for several weeks.
Born November 3, 1927 in
Cleburn. Alabama, he was
son of the late Ben Dry and
Mrs. Sallie Adamson Day.
Survivors include his wife,
Mrs. Frances Britt Day ; one
daughter, Mrs. Glenda Gil
bert of Jackson; a graftd
child; two brothers, Ralph
Day and Ranaird Day. both
of Bowden, Ga.; several
nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jackie
Cook, Bobby Watkins, Victor
James. Kerry Faulk, Mac
Collins. Travis Harper.

Twelve 4-H’ers represent
ed Butts County at Senior
District Project Achieve
ment last week at Rock
Eagle 4-H Center near
Eatonton. Ricky Long, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Alton Long and
Bobby Pinckney, son of Dr.
and Mrs. R. H. Pinckney,
brought home first place
honors for Butts County.
Ricky won in public speaking
and Bobby in electronics.
The two boys will compete
for state honors at the State
4-H Congress in Atlanta,
August 16-19.

number of participants in the
humam development project
in each of the other 4
Extension districts, Lee also
has a chance of participating
at the state level.
Over 600 4-H’ers represent
ing 39 counties competed for
honors in the various
projects at DPA. Each Butts
county 4-H’er had stiff
competition from up to 24
participants in their project.

Final Rites For
Mrs. Chambers
Held Saturday
Mrs. Vallie Mae Parker
Chambers of 835 Lane Street,
Griffin, died Thursday morn
ing, June 24th at the
Griff in-Spalding Hospital.
She was widow of Mr. Grady
Chambers.
A native of Monticello, she
had lived in Griffin most of
her life. She was a member of
the New Salem Baptist
Church.
Funeral services were
conducted Saturday at 11
o’clock from the New Salem
Baptist Church with the Rev.
Brady Blalock and the Rev.
Evans in woodworking; fifth,
Mike James in housing and
equipment, Randall Morgan
in dairy, Ricky Cook in small
engines; sixth, Todd Foster
in safety.
These boys are to be
commended for their accom
plishments. It took dedica
tion and hard work to keep a
year long record, and then
put it together for judging at
the district level for 50
percent of their score. In
additon a 15 minute demon
stration on some phase of
their project had to be
presented at the DPA for the
other 50 percent of their
score.
