CAROL SUE BLANTON IS BRIDE
OF DANIEL THAYER BROWN
Mr. and Mrs. James Fryer
Blanton of Decatur announce
the marriage of their
daughter, Carol Sue, to Mr.
Daniel Thayer Brown, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Brown of
Ft. Myers, Florida. The
double ring ceremony was
performed July 10 at Grace
United Methodist Church in
Atlanta with Dr. Sam Coker
and Rev. Art Graves officia
ting.
The bride was radiantly
lovely in her gown of white
organza. The bodice featured
a sheer yoke with a wedding
band neckline of Peau Dange
lace. The bodice was heavily
l appliqued with Peau Dange
lace and seed pearls were
softly scattered throughout.
The sleeves were bishop style
sheer with Peau Dange
appliques and beadwork. The
skirt fell gracefully from the
empire waist in an A-line.
The hem was encircled twice
with Peau Dange lace and
seed pearls with a panel of
satinized organza in between
soft gathers of organza
gathered at the back of the
waist and flowed into a
chapel length train.
She wore an elbow length
mantilla completely edged in
Alencon lace. The headpiece
was covered in lace with seed
pearls scattered softly.
Mrs. Barbara Mclntire of
Huntsville, Alabama, was
her sister’s matron of honor.
Serving her sister as maid of
honor was Miss Mary Lynn
Blanton of Decatur. Brides
maids were Miss Kay Clark
of Atlanta, Miss Jackie
Fleeman of Alexandria,
Virginia, Mrs. Nina Fleming
of Macon, Miss Sheryl
Henderson of Dunwoody, and
Miss Brenda McDonald of
Jonesboro. Serving as flower
girls were Miss Kristina
Fucci and Miss Monica
Brown, both of Ft. Lauder
dale, Florida.
Mr. Carl Brown served as
his son’s best man. Grooms
men were Mr. Lyn Brown
and Mr. Tom Fucci, both of
Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Mr.
Frank Fleming of Macon,
Mr Scott Jenkins of Atlanta,
Mr. Bruce Mclntire of
Huntsville, Alabama, served
as ringbearer.
A reception in the church
social hall was given by the
bride’s parents following the
ceremony. Serving were
Miss Betty Jean Blanton of
Atlanta, Mrs. Scotti Chonko
of Stone Mountain, Mrs.
Sylvia Graves of Thompson,
Mrs. Judy Koch of Marietta,
Mrs. Betty Petree of Beth
lehem, Mrs. Louise Wilson of
East Point, and Mrs. Susan
Wood of Snellville, Miss
Paula Wilson of East Point
kept the bride’s book.
After a wedding trip to
Hilton Head, South Carolina,
Mr. and Mrs. Brown will
reside in Jenkinsburg, Ga.
where Mr. Brown will be
serving the United Methodist
Church.
AARP HEARS
PROGRAM ON
INSURANCE
At the regular meeting of
the Association of Retired
Persons, Mr. M. L. Powell
presented an informative
program on insurance, par
ticularly insurance that is
beneficial to retired persons.
He surprised the group with
gifts of hand crafted articles,
which are the achievements
of his new hobby in his
retirement.
Mr. R. A. Allen, who had
been absent for some time on
account of illness, was
welcomed back.
Mrs. Flora Price presided
in the absence of Mrs. Eva
O’Neal, president.
It was suggested that a trip
be planned for the group in
the fall.

improvements in the way the county is run.
I've really enjoyed meeting you folks I've

about outrageous taxes, wdrk needed on roads,
and unnecessary spending. These are my concerns,

The Jackson Business &
Professional Women’s Club
entertained the Butts County
Bicentennial Celebration
Committee and their guests
at the Elder Hotel in Indian
Springs Monay night July
26th.
The fifty-one people
gathered for the event heard
an inspiring speech by Jack
Little. Mr. Little roasted the
individual members of the
committee, complimented
them for a job well done in
the planning and execution of
the Butts County Bicenten
nial Week, and challenged all
with a reminder of our great
American heritage and with
the fact that pride in our
country and patriotism are
not passe.
In addition to the members
of the B&PW Club and their
husbands, guests for the
occasion were Mr. and Mrs.
Dick O’Hara, Mr. and Mrs.
Rob Swearingen, Harry

A program on Alcoholism
was sponsored by Mr. Emory
of the local American Legion
unit. He presented Mr. Roger
Scott of the Mclntosh Trail
Clinic who emphasized that
alcohoholism is now recog
nized as a disease and the
importance of understanding
alcoholics and the need for
help.

Georgia Press Association at
Jekyll Island, July 22-25.
Miss Crawford left late
Sunday afternoon for Athens
to be with her grandmother,
Mrs. L. F. Griffith, before
returning to Charlotte.
Mr Powell graduated from
the Georgia Institute of
Technology. He served for
five years in the United
States Air Force.
The ceremony is planned
for August 14th at three
o’clock in the afternoon at the
Kemper Baptist Church in
Lakeview. All friends are
invited.
After the wedding the
young couple will make their
home in Fort Worth, Texas,
where both are students at
Southwestern Baptist Theolo
gical Seminary.

Miss Laurena Watkins,

Decatur, Ga. became the
bride of Mr. Hunter Pope
Green, son of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Joseph Green of
Decatur, in a recent candle
light ceremony at Scott
Boulevard Baptist Church in
Decatur.
The bride wore an heir
loom cameo, which belonged
to her great grandmother,
the late Mrs. Gus Wise of
Jackson.
The bride’s maternal
grandmother is Mrs. Alice
W. Smith, formerly of
Jackson.

My name is Ricky Beauchamp, a lifelong resident of Butts County. My
parents are Mrs. J. O. Beauchamp and the late J. O. Beauchamp of Butts
County. My wife is the former Kay Thompson, also a native of Butts County and
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Thompson. We have one son, Andy, age 2
months.
My goal as Tax Commissioner of Butts County is to serve each and every
citizen of our county to the best of my ability.
As you know, 1 cannot promise to reduce the taxes you pay, but I will make
the following statement:
I will establish a channel of communication between the Taxpayer, the
County Assessors and the County Commissioners. This means if you have a
question concerning YOUR taxes beyond the mathematics, YOUR question will
be presented before the proper group and their answer will be returned to you as
soon as possible IN WRITING.
I would like to make a correction on the office hours printed in last weeks
paper. The office of the Tax Commissioner will be kept open from 8 am to 5 pm
each business day.
