1976 Heart
Fund Drive
Was Success
Georgians contributed a
record total $1,158,394 to the
Georgia Heart Association’s
1976 HEART FUND cam
paign.
“Despite the economic
uncertainties of the past
year, this new all-time high
for the HEART FUND drive
makes it possible for the
Heart Association to increase
its support for the on-going
flight against heart disease,”
noted Charles E. Rowland,
Jr., Atlanta banker who
served as state chairman for
the 1976 campaign.
Coupled with income from
other sources, the successful
HEART FUND drive has
enabled the Heart Associa
tion to budget $1,315,724 for
activities during the current
year which ends next June
30.
Some 60,000 volunteers
participated in the 1976
HEART FUND in the 154
counties served by the
Georgia Heart Association.
Ninety counties showed a
gain over the previous year;
73 counties exceeded their
county HEART FUND goal;
and 54 counties reached a
new all-time high in contri
butions.
In Screven County, where
Don Toole served as HEART
FUND chairman, contribu
tions were more than 200
percent over the county goal.
The Heart Association’s
current budget calls for
continuation of community
programs such as the Schools
High Blood Pressure Pro
gram, high blood pressure
screening and CPR (card
iopulmonary resuscitation).
GHA supports heart re
search at three Georgia
institutions and through the
American Heart Associa
tion’s national research
program and provides public
and professional education in
prevention and treatment of
heart and blood vessel
disease.
The current statewide
educational emphasis is risk
factors of heart disease, with
emphasis in 1977 to be the
early warning signs of heart
attack.

Endorse Bid
Of Jack Flynt
The National Alliance of
Senior Citizens today endors
ed the candidacy of Con
gressman John J. Flynt,
(6th-Ga.) for re-election to
the United States House of
Representatives.
In announcing the organi
zation’s support, Mrs. J. W.
Aubrey, Alliance President,
recalled Mr. Flynt’s record
for fiscal responsibility in
government to protect those
living on fixed incomes from
the deep ravages of inflation.
"No single segment of the
American people is more
impacted by uncontrolled
government spending and
the inflation it causes than is
the senior community.
“Congressman Flynt’s out
standing record on the
‘Golden Age Index’ clearly
demonstrates his determina
tion to support those policies
in the best interest of the
aging,” added the senior
citizens’ leader.
“Asa member of the
Golden Age Hall of the
Alliance, Mr. Flynt has
joined with many other
leading Americans to seek
the best possible future for
our Senior Americans, and
truly merits the full measure
of support of every concern
ed mature individual. The
National Alliance of Senior
Citizens is pleased to give its
wholehearted endorsement
to the re-election of this fine
representative of the
jjpople," concluded Mrs.
Aubrey.
