Engagement of Saralyn Ridgeway
To Ralph Wilson Is Announced
Mr. and Mrs. David P.
Ridgeway, Sr. of Jackson,
Georgia announce the en
gagement and forthcoming
marriage of their daughter,
Saralyn Laverne, to Mr.
Ralph Benjamin Wilson of
Tifton, Georgia. Ralph is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward
H. Wilson, Sr. of Sardis,
Georgia.
Saralyn is the grand
daughter of Mrs. A. P.
Churchwell, Sr. of Macon,
Georgia and the late Mr.
Churchwell and the late Mr.
and Mrs. S. P. Ridgeway. She
is a 1972 graduate of Jackson
High School and a 1976
graduate of the University of
Georgia with a Bachelor of

The Magnolia Garden Club
met Thursday evening, Oc
tober 7th, at the lovely home
of Mrs. Eloise Edwards on
McCaskill Drive with Mrs.
Frances Paget and Mrs. Sara
Collins as co-hostesses.
A short business meeting
was held by Mrs. Paget,
president.
Sara Collins, program
chairman, presented Mrs. J.
W. Carter who gave a most
enjoyable program on mak
ing corn shuck dolls and
flowers. The club members
got lots of ideas on how to dye
and dry flowers for arrange
ments. The hostesses served
delicious pie and coffee.

H. Wilson. He is a 1970
graduate of Sardis-Girard-
Alexander High School and
attended Abraham Baldwin
Agricultural College. He is
presently employed by the
Citizens and Southern Bank
of Tifton, Georgia.
The wedding will take
place at three o’clock in the
afternoon, on Sunday, No
vember 14, at the Towaliga
Baptist Church in Jackson.
No invitations are being sent.
All friends and relatives are
invited at attend.

HOSTS HAWTHORNE
GARDEN CLUB
The Hawthorne Garden
Club met at the home of Mrs.
Harry Redman for their
September meeting with 15
members and one visitor,
Mrs. Ernestine Guest. The
devotional was given by Mrs.
Redman on the 10th chapter
of Luke and Mrs. Gladys
Wilson led in prayer. Mrs.
Gwen Juhlin, president,
welcomed the group and told
of the decision not to have a
flower show at the Fair this
year. It was planned to have
interesting trips at a later
date.
Mrs. Redman told of her
trip to Adamsville. Mrs.
Juhlin gave a demonstration
on rabbit tobacco ready for
wreaths. She explained each
step in making one. The next
meeting will be at the home
of Mrs. Gladys Wilson. The
hostess served delicious ice '
cream, cookies, nuts and
mints.

WORKSHOP-PLANNING
A workshop-planning Ses
sion featured the October
meeting of Upsilon Chapter,
Delta Kappa Gamma. The
honorary women educators
group met at the Bonanza
Hayloft in Griffin on October
2, with the president, Mrs.
Martha P. Elliott, presiding
at the business session.
Secretary Mrs. Euna Zell
ner and Treasurer Mrs. Nell
Wynne gave reports. Meeting
dates for 1976-77 are as
follows: November 20, with
Butts County members host
ess; February 5 with Lamar
County members hostess;
April 16, Monroe County
members hostess; and Octo
ber l, Griffin members
hostess.
The planning of the year’s
work was done with these
committees meeting: Mem
bership, Nominations, Fi
nance, Program, Publica
tions and Publicity-Year
book, Scholarships, Initia
tion, Community Service,
Professional Affairs, Perso
nal Growth and Services,
Research and History,
Music, Scrapbook, and World
Fellowship.
The invocation at the
luncheon which followed was
given by Mrs. Ruth Nealy. At
the conclusion of the lunch
eon reports were made of the
International Convention at
St. Louis by Susie Blanton
and Bobbie Bates. They
reported a very inspiring
convention, and Delta Kappa
Gamma now has chapters in
nine foreign countries. It was
a thrilling sight to see the
flags of different countries
pass in review and hear the
national anthem of these
countries. A full program of
events and sightseeing made
for a very interesting
convention.

Dot Dempsey of Griffin has won
her wings and is now a Flight
Attendant with Delta Air Lines.
The daughter of Dr. and Mrs.
Hugh Dempsey, she completed
the four-week course at Delta’s
Training School at Hartsfield
Atlanta International Airport,
Atlanta, and is now based in
Boston. Miss Dempsey
graduated from Griffin High
School. She attended the
University of Georgia and
received a 8.5.8.A. from the
University of Arkansas,
Fayetteville, Ark.

SLATES PTA MEET
Parents are urged to
attend the regular PTA
meeting at the Henderson
Elementary School, Thurs
day night, October 14, at 7:30
P.M.
Mrs. Stanley Maddox is the
Chairman of the Executive
Committee for Henderson
Elementary.
The program will be based
on the Criterion Reference
Test as administered to the
fourth, eighth and eleventh
grades last spring. Those
appearing on the program
will be the fifth grade
teachers and J.M.L. Comer.
Mrs. Maddox said’ this
program should be of
particular interest to parents
as much money has been
expended on testing.
