Debra D. Barlow Becomes
Bride of Chester Shannon
Miss Debra D. Barlow
became the bride of Mr.
Chester L. Shannon on
August 7th at four o’clock in
the afternoon at the Mace
donia Baptist Church of
Jackson. Reverend John D.
Grier of Atlanta performed
the double ring ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Eulas Barlow
of Jackson. The groom is the

Mrs. H. G. Harris and Mrs.
F. D. Terrell were co
hostesses to the Jenkinsburg
Garden Club at the spacious
and lovely home of Mrs.
Harris on October 12th.
Seventeen members and two
guests were present.
Mrs. M. B. Farrar,
president, presided over the
meeting.
Mrs. C. W. Haley gave an
inspiring devotional taken
from Ephesians, Chapter 2
and the 93rd Psalm.
Material was distributed
by Mrs. T. T. Patrick on “My
Child is Handicapped.”
The two interesting guests,
Mr. and Mrs. Emory Griggs,
of Decatur, were introduced
by Mrs. Hulon Price. Mr.
Griggs showed slides on
Juneau, Alaska, and British
Columbia, Canada with its
Bute hart Gardens, which
were very beautiful.
During the refreshment
session, Misses Lee Ann
Harris and Emily Jo Harris
asses ted the hostess in
servng delicious apple cake
with whipped cream and
punch.
TOWALIGA CLUB
MET AT HOME OF
MRS. BROWNLEE
The regular monthly meet
ing of the Towaliga Commun
ity Club was held at the home
of Mrs. Charles Brownlee
with Mrs. Lynn Shadrix as
co-hostess. The home was
beautifully decorated with
Fall flowers throughout.
Mrs. Mary Parrish, presi
dent, called the meeting to
order and welcomed 14
members and four visitors.
An inspiring devotional
was given by Mrs. Belle
Pettigrew bringing out
thoughts of faith, needs in our
everyday life. Reports on the
clubhouse and community
affairs were given.
A committee consisting of
Mrs. Jane Weaver, Mrs.
Lynn Shaddrix and Mrs.
Belle Pettigrew was appoint
ed to attend the BCABC
meeting.
Miss Patricia Smith, Home
Economist , was welcomed
and she demonstrated deco
rating glass bottles with
masking tape. Mrs. Susan
Parham talked on gourds
and made attractive ar
rangements.
During the social hour a
delicious congealed salad
plate, crackers, cake and
Coca-Cola were served by the
hostess.

Debra is a 1976 graduate of
Jackson High School. She is
presently attending Branell
Women’s College in Atlanta,
majoring in Fashion Mer
chandising. Chester is a 1975
graduate of Jackson High.
He is presently employed by
the U. S. Army, stationed in
Budigen, Germany.
FHA INSTALLS
OFFICERS FOR
YEAR 1976-77
On Wednesday, October 13,
the Future Homemakers of
America installed officers
for the 1976-77 year. The
ceremony began with the
lighting of candles to
symbolize the eight purposes
of the organization. Follow
ing the candlelight cere
mony, the former president,
Angelia Henderson, intro
duced the incoming officers
and their duties. The closing
ceremony ended with An
gelia Henderson relinquish
ing her position to the
incoming president, Edna
Head.
The following officers were
installed: Edna Head, Presi
dent; Juanita Evans, Vice-
President; Carolyn Jester,
Secretary; Barbara Collier,
Treasurer; Charlie Dumus,
Parliamentarian; Valerie
Smith, Projects Chairman;
Donna Wyatt, Historian;

initiate new members on
October 25.
The FHA officers have
planned several community
and school projects for the
year. The club’s first
community project will be a
display of Christmas
arrangements on December
2 at the EMC building. Some
arrangements will be for
sale.
The FHA club hopes for a
successful year.

The September meeting of
the Iron Springs Sunshine
Club was held at the
community house with 16
members and two visitors
present.
The meeting opened with
the singing of “America.”
Mrs. Betty Jenkins gave the
devotional, closing with
prayer.
Mrs. Ruth Greer, president
presided over business at
which time reports were
given by the secretary,
treasurer, and Mrs. Joyce
Barnes, chairman of Fair
Booth.
Mrs. Nettie Edwards of
Flovilla gave an interesting
program on making roses,
giving each step on making
and arranging them.
The hostesses, Mrs. Anna
Jenkins and Mrs. Betty
Jenkins, served cake, punch,
nuts and cookies.
Visitors were Mrs. Emma
Riley and Mrs. Nettie
Edwards.

GRIFFIN DISTRICT
UNITED METHODIST
“You’ve Come A Long
Way, Baby” will be the
theme for the annual meeting
of the Griffin District United
Methodist Women to be held
at the Eatonton First United
Methodist Church, Sunday,
October 24, from 2:30 to 4:30
p.m.
The program will highlight
the local units within the
district through a slide
presentation of their various
activities. Special music will
be provided by a chorus of
district women under the
direction of Mrs. Jerry Pitts.
Mrs. James L. Hendrix will
coordinate a Pledge Service
as a part of the program to
emphasize mission outreach.
Miss Alberta Blanton is
district president.

6TH DIST. MEET
Eleven members of the
Butts County Retired Teach
ers Association attended the
GRTA Sixth District meeting
in Griffin, October 13th.
The theme of the meeting
was “The Game, Are You On
The Team?”
Mini-reports were given by
each local unit president.
Speeches were made by
educators on “Membership,
Goals, Legislature, and Bet
ter Retirement Plans.”
PERSONAL
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest
James and Mr. and Mrs.
Clyde Norton of Hapeville
spent a month in Clearwater,
Fla. and other points of
interest. Mr. Gene Norton of
Fairburn visited with them
one weekend. Mr. James
spent his 80th birthday at the
Kapok Tree Inn where he has
celebrated his birthday for
the past five years, this being
the sixth.
Lovett Fletcher went to
Jackson, Mississippi to the
Southeastern Food and Drug
Conference. He will repre
sent the Georgia Health
Department.
Mr. and Mrs. Olin L. Glaze
moved recently to High Falls
and are making their home in
the house formerly occupied
by Dr. and Mrs. W. G. Smith.
Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Weaver
and Miss Willene Weaver
visited for several days in
Frankfort, Ky. with Mr. and
Mrs. Earl Reynolds. Willene
remained for a longer visit.
The Weavers were accom
panied on the trip by Mr. and
Mrs. A. V. Maddox who
visited relatives in Corbin,
Ky.
Miss Sue Lockhart recently
accompanied her sister, Mrs.
Evelyn Thurston and family
of Austell, to the mountains
of North Georgia, Cherokee,
N. C. and into Gatlinburg,
Tennessee.
Mr. and Mrs. Lou Moel
chert and Mr. and Mrs.
Rogers Starr motored to
Athens last Saturday for the
Georgia-Vanderbilt game at
Sanford Stadium.
Mrs. W. J. Bassett of
Greenville has been the guest
of her sister, Mrs. E. J.
Jarrell. Mrs. Bassett return
ed home with her son, Mr.
and Mrs. Lenwood Bassett,
and children on Sunday.

The “Miss Georgia Agri
culture” beauty pageant will
be in conjunction with the
Second Annual Harvest Ball
of the Georgia Agribusiness
Council on October 22nd at
Atlanta Hilton Hotel.
Approximately 1,000
people are expected to attend
the Harvest Ball this year.
