Gordon College
Reports High
Enrollment
Gordon Junior College has j
reached a record high
enrollment of 1203 students
this fall quarter, Dr. Jerry
Williamson, president, an
nounced.
This is an increase of 101
students over last fall’s
enrollment. “We are ex
tremely proud of the local
support we are receiving,”
Dr. Williamson said. “While
most college enrollments
have dropped this fall, ours
increased significantly. I’m
glad students are taking
advantage of the superior
academic curriculum Gor
don offers.”
Gordon enrolled 346 stu
dents from Spalding County,
an increase of 23 per cent
over students from that
county last year. Upson sent
276, six per cent more than
attended classes last fall.
The highest percentage in
crease this year was 39 per
cent from Lamar which
enrolled 208 students. Pike
County students number 80, a
27 per cent increase from last
fall.
Of Gordon’s 1203 students,
over 10 per cent scored 1000
or higher on the Scholastic
Aptitude Test administered
to all graduating high school
seniors. “Our students are
now consistently performing
at a level above most junior
colleges in the state,” Dr.
Williamson said.
He pointed out that 18 of
Gordon’s 21 nursing grad
uates passed the National
League of Nursing’s State
Board Licensing Test in July.
“Gordon ranks among the
top colleges scoring well on
the nursing exam.”
Sixty-seven students from
six counties were awarded
academic scholarships by
the Gordon Junior College
Foundation this year totaling
$12,993.
