Miss Deborah Elrod Is
Bride of Hugh T. Bond
Deborah Lynne Elrod and
Hugh Thomas Bond, both of
Atlanta, were married at the
First United Methodist
Church in Hazlehurst on
August 28th with the Rever
end Royce Story, Assistant
Pastor, performing the cere
mony. The bride is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Russell N. Rawlins of
Hazlehurst. Mr. Bond’s
parents are Mrs. Lamar P.
Jinks and James Thomas
Bond, both of Jackson.
Don Elrod of Gainesville,
uncle of the bride, was
soloist, opening with “One
Hand, One Heart” and
concluding with “The Lord’s
Prayer”. He was accom
panied at the organ by Pierce
Pickens.
Four green ferns were
placed at appropriate loca
tions inside the chancel. A
mass arrangement of yellow
gladioli, aqua and peach
carnations, yellow pom-poms
and baby’s breath was
placed in the center back
ground of the chancel.
Garlands of lily of the valley
draped the banisters and the
altar rail was adorned with
greenery and yellow satin
ribbons.
Tommy B. Clay of Atlanta
served as best man for the
groom. Ushers were Bill
Jones and Ben Hill Dover,
Jr., both of Jackson; Joe
Parker, Summerville; Bill
Chakeres and Jim Stewart,
both of Atlanta; and Quinton
Abies of Marietta.
The bride, given in
marriage by her brother,
Danny Elrod, wore a simple
white knit creation. The
empire bodice, long pointed
sleeves and high neckline
were delicately appliqued in
reembroidered alencon lace
dotted with seed pearls. The
semi-full skirt formed a
chapel train. Her bouquet
was a cascade of peach
colored roses with baby’s
breath centered with a white
orchid. She wore a chapel
length Mantilla veil of
Belgium lace brought from
Europe by her maternal
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
R. P. Chitwood of Valdosta.
Mrs. Judy Mims Cole of
Hazlehurst was matron of
honor. Bridesmaids were
Miss Katherine Mills Ray
and Miss Mary Starratt
Dina tale, both of Athens;
Miss Dell Leggett, Miss
Karen Dyal Lay and Miss
Marion Elrod, sister of the
bride, all of Hazlehurst; and
Miss Sally Boyd of Atlanta.
Her attendants wore floor
length aqua dresses with an
empire bodice enhanced by a
bell sleeved jacket. They
carried nosegays of aqua
miniature carnations, white
daisies, peach carnations,
baby’s breath and white and
yellow pom-poms.
The bride’s mother wore a
flow length flowing pink
chiffon empire bodiced dress
with a matching long sleeved
jacket. The groom’s mother
was attired in a floor length
long sleeved mint green
dress of Quiana knit with
matching seed pearls at the
neckline and bodice. Both
mothers wore a corsage of
white carnations.
The 3-candle lighting cere
mony was one of the impres
sive highlights of the oc
casion.
Following the ceremony,
the guests gathered in the
Fellowship Hall for a recep
tion tendered by the bride’s
parents and catered by Mrs.
Kate McLean. Mrs. Don
Elrod and Ms. Sharon
Wommack Crabbe presided
at the punch table. Others
serving included Mrs. Mal
colm Hall, Miss Lena
Chitwood and Mrs. Laurice
Aquirre, all aunts of the
bride.
Mrs. Bond chose a two
piece pale blue and white knit
ensemble with navy acces
sories as her going-away
outfit.
Following a wedding trip to
Amalia Island Plantation,
Florida, the couple is now
residing at Norcross.

Shower-Tea
The bride was honored at a
shower-tea given in the home
of Mrs. Hugh Floyd of
Hazlehurst on July 31. The
guests were greeted by the
bride and her mother, Mrs.
Russell Rawlins. After view
ing the gifts, the guests were
served refreshments from a
beautiful table dominated by
a handsome ornate silver
punch bowl surrounded by
canapes, finger sandwiches
and pastries. Hostesses for
the occasion were Mrs.

Mrs. Dwight Carter, Mrs. H.

A Linen-Lingerie Shower
was given for Miss Elrod on
August 18 at the home of Mrs.
Gordon Knox, Jr. of Hazle
hurst. Other hostesses in
cluded Mrs. Judy Cole, Mrs.
Sharon Crabbe and Miss Teri
Knox.
Rehearsal Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. Lamar P.
Jinks entertained the bridal
party and a host of friends
with a lovely buffet dinner at
the home of the bride’s
parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Russell Rawlins, following
the wedding rehearsal at the
church on Friday evening,
August 27. Also attending
were many out-of-town rela
tives.
Later in the evening the
guests were honored at a
poolside party given by the
bride and groom at the home
of Mr. Claude P. Cook of
Hazlehurst.

Bridesmaids’ Luncheon
The bridesmaids’ luncheon
was given at the home of
Mrs. Marcus Trowell, Jr. of
Hazlehurst on August 28.
After each guest was asked
to give a prayer for the bridal
couple, a refreshing luncheon
was served. Later, the
hostesses presented the bride
with a chest of stainless
flatware.
Those attending were the
bride, her attendants, Mrs.
Russell N. Rawlins, mother
of the bride, and Mrs. Lamar
P. Jinks, mother of the
groom.
Hostesses were Mrs.
Trowell, Mrs. Bob Sears,
Mrs. “Bud” Olson and Mrs.
Wanda Whitfield.

ARRANGEMENTS BY

The October meeting of the
Mimosa Garden Club was
held on Thursday afternoon,
October 14, at the Jackson
Presbyterian Church annex
with Mrs. Henry Hilder
brand, Mrs. John Schroeder
and Mrs. Glen Meredith as
hostesses.
The meeting was presided
over by the president, Mrs.
H. M. Fletcher. Seventeen
members and one visitor,
Mrs. T. H. Price, were
present.
Mrs. Joseph C. Parham
presented a delightful pro
gram on gourds and their
uses in making flower
arrangements. Mrs. Parham
made several arrangements
during the program. She also
showed some wall arrange
ments and animals made
from gourds.
Delicious refreshments
were served by the hostesses.
PERSONAL
Friends of Davis Willard
are pleased to learn that his
early release from the
Griffin-Spalding County
Hospital is planned for this
week. Johnny Smolka visited
Davis on Sunday and
reported him much improved
and high in praise of his son,
Donald, who had spent much
time in the hospital during
his father’s stay.

Mrs. T. R. Sims has
returned from a weeks
vacation in Charleston, S. C.
with her sister, Mrs. Dot
Infinger. They went via
Savannah to Nashville, Ga.
to visit other relatives. There
were five sisters there
together for a visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Adel Allen
spent ten days visiting Mr.
and Mrs. John Scott in
Phoenix, Ariz. While there
they visited several places of
interest including Grand
Canyon, also a trip to Las
Vegas.
Mr. and Mrs. Elzie Wells
and family of Jeffersonville,
Ind. spent last weekend with
Mrs. Cora Wells and other
relatives here.

The Baptist Student Union
team from Georgia Tech who
led a weekend Youth revival
at Jenkinsburg Baptist
Church were thoroughly
enjoyed by all who heard
them, with their inspirational
music and preaching. A
covered dish lunch was
enjoyed at the club house at
the noon hour and there was
much good food consumed
and the fellowship was great.
Mr. Ben Box and Miss
Rennee Dacus were house
guests of Mr. and Mrs. T. H.
Price over the weekend.
