The mayors praised Flynt’s attention to their needs as municipalities. In a related event, the 6th Jack Flynt Rips His Opponent As Being A Disguised Liberal NEWNAN, GA., October 18, 1976 - Proving his reputation as a feisty political infighter, 6th Dis trict Congressman Jack Flynt told Coweta County Democrats here tonight that “the people are tired, very tired” of his opponent, Newt Gingrich, who “seems to be two people, maybe more.” “I think our people are tired of schizophrenic poli ticians who say one thing, then do another,” Flynt told the vocal and partisan crowd. “I think they are tired of carpetbaggers trying to tell them how to run their lives. I think they are tired of out-of-state organizations trying to buy Georgia elections.” Flynt said Gingrich claims to be a Republican, but tried to disrupt a Democratic Delegate Selection Conven tion in 1972 as a McGovern operative. “He claims he knows what the people of the 6th District want, but he has relied on out-of-state Republican big wigs like Barry Goldwater, Bill Brock, John Rhodes and John Connally to come in here and tell our people what they want,” Flynt charged. Flynt, now the “dean” of the Georgia delegation in the House and, after 22 years, a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, cited his own record of conservatism and fiscal reponsibility as the reason voters should return him to Congress. “He claims to be a conservative,” Flynt contin ued, “Is this the same conservative who in his college days at Tulane was chairman of Youth for Rockefeller? Is this the same conservative sho has a former McGovern worker as his campaign director?” Flynt, seeking his 13th term in the U. S. House of Representatives, said Ging rich’s claim of having support in the district was weak because he, Gingrich, has received more than one-third of his contributions from out-of-state Republican organizations. up to check with the Town Clerk now and if not registered to complete regis tration for this election by November 20th. Convictions Are Up In Welfare Fraud Four Georgians have been sent to jail for welfare fraud in the last 30 days, according to Mary Pollotta, legal services officer for the Georgia Department of Hu man Resources. The three women and one man had illegally received a total of over $25,000 in food stamps, Medicaid, and other public assistance. Two of the offenders have been sentenced to one year in jail. The other two have been sentenced to three years. One of these will be allowed to serve the term only on weekends says Ms. Pallotta. According to DHR Com missioner, T. M. Jim Parham, cooperation be tween the county depart ments of Family and Children’s Services, local prosecutors, and the legal services unit has enabled DHR to move an increasing volume of cases. “Beginning in 1971 from a also include the following selections: “Good Old Colony Days,” “The Island Queen,” “The Dying Redcoat,” “Yankee Doodle,” “Two Brothers,” “Pick a Bale of Cotton,” “He’s the Man for Me,” and “Free, My Lord, Free at Las’.” virtually ‘stand still’ posi tion, the unit has had significant gains recorded each year,” says Parham. Ms. Pallotta says, “In the three years from 1969 to 1972, there were only seven convictions for welfare fraud in Georgia. Since June 1972 we have had nearly 60 convictions. “In the past two years the reports to the unit of cases of suspected fraud have doubled from 1,709 to 3,933,” says Parham. “In fiscal year 1976, 1,042 cases were referred to the courts for trial compared to 458 the previous year.” The number of convictions and pleas nearly doubled this year to 272, and is expected to double again next year. A total of $279,627 from illegally received benefits was re covered this year, doubling last year’s sum. “We are right on schedule or ahead of our projected figure for 1977,” says Parham. “Public interest has helped us gain momen tum.” Little Variation Near the Equator, climate varies little throughout the year. Rainfall and tem perature in those regions remain consistently high. The absence of seasons means that plants do not display a resting period, while the abundance of warmth and moisture en sures a particularly luxuri ant.
