LOCAL EDUCATORS—SeveraI teachers from Butts County represented their
colleagues in the Butts County Association of Educators at the Fall assembly of the
Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) in Macon on Saturday, November 6th. They were
among the almost 800 delegates from around the state who joined forces to set legislative
goals for educational lobbying during the 1977 General Assembly. Among the priorities the
GAE will fight for in January are lower pupil-teacher ratios, statewide kindergarten and
salary increases.
Representing Butts County were, left to right, Ruth Ash, James Lawson and Mamie
Crawford. Daryl Pippin attended but was not pictured.

Because extra cooking and
entertaining often accom
pany the holiday season, it’s
a good time to pay special
attention to energy use. Here
are some hints to help you
enjoy the holidays without
using a great deal of extra
energy.
For large gatherings, set
the thermostat back a few
degrees. Once guests have
arrived, body heat will make
the house warmer. Heat is
lost each time an outside
door is opened, so see that
guests don’t linger at the
open door when arriving or
leaving and discourage child
ren from running in and out
of the house or leaving
outside doors ajar.
Use oven space efficiently
by baking several foods at
once and freezinng or
refrigerating those foods you
don’t plan to eat right away.
Be sure to let the foods cool to
room temperature before
storing them in the refrigera
tor or freezer.
There is no need to preheat
the oven for most foods
requiring more than an
hour’s baking time. Cakes
are an exception. It is also
unnecessary to preheat the
oven for broiling. When
preheating is called for, put
foods into the oven as soon as
it has reached the correct
temperature.
Save energy by thawing
meats completely before
putting them into the oven.
Poultry cooks faster if the
stuffing is cooked in a pan
rather than inside the bird.
This method also assures the
stuffing will be cooked

thoroughly.
Many families prefer self
basting turkeys even though
they cost a bit more per
pound than others. They save
time and effort and make it
unnecessary to open the oven
door periodically for basting.
Each time the oven door is
opened, costly heat escapes.

CALLING COLLEEN:
How Do You Handle
Schoolgirl Crush?
BY COLLEEN DUDGEON
I feel just terrible writing
to you about my “schoolgirl
crush”. I am 24 going on 16
because of this man I just
can’t keep
my mind off
of. He works /m
in the same /
building that
I do and I see
him every- ftr
day in the
coffee shop. He is abso
lutely the best looking
man on earth! I don’t know
if he’s married or not. I’m
afraid to ask anyone be
cause I know they’ll think
I’m stupid. I can’t get the
courage to talk to him and
when he passes by I know I
must be blushing. How can I
get introduced to him? Is it
improper to just walk up to
somebody and say hello? I
don’t want any of the other
people in my office to make
the introductions because
then they’ll know I have a
thing for him.
WANTS TO MEET ROMEO
Dear Wants Romeo: It’s
not very unusual to have
schoolgirl crushes. How
many women do you know
that idolize the handsome
movie stars and swoon over
the rugged athletes? Prob
ably thousands, and most
likely there isn’t a wom
an alive who hasn’t fanta
sized meeting a “romeo”
like the one you have eyes
for. I don’t see anything
wrong with introducing
your-self to him. But be
cautious. Don’t be too flir
tatious this turns many

Topic: Emulating Christ
Text: Phil. 1:27-28
Paul is relating His
readiness to glorify Christ.
(26-28). That your rejoicing
may be more abundant in
Jesus Christ for me by my
coming to you again. Only let
your conversation be as it
becometh the gospel of
Christ: That whether I come
and see you, or else be
absent, I may hear of your
affairs, that ye stand fast in
one spirit, with one mind
striving together for the faith
of the gospel; and in nothing
terrified by your adver
saries: Which is to them an
evident token of perdition,
for a few days, set the
furnace thermostat at about
60 or 55 degrees before you
leave. Don’t shut the heating
off completely, because the
outside temperature could
drop suddenly causing water
pipes to freeze and burst.
It’s a good idea to use
timers on lights left on for
security so they don’t burn 24
hours a day. Remember,
lights that burn all day as
well as night are a tip to
burglars that no one is home.
men off like lights. Simply
be charming and see what
happens. So many times
those good-lookers have a lot
on the outside but very little
inside. Hope he isn’t mar
ried! If he is, hands off!
GOOD LUCK !

This may sound awful, but
I’m in love with my best
friend’s boyfriend. She has
been the dearest friend in
the world to me and I know
I’m a jerk for even thinking
about her boyfriend. The
trouble is, at one time
(before he started dating my
friend) he asked me out. I
didn’t go because at the time
I was dating someone else
steadily. How can I keep
these feelings under con
trol?
BACKSTABBER OF SORTS
Dear Of Sorts: This is a
very touchy problem. You
alone are responsible for
your actions, but it’s very
difficult to just put a hold on
feelings. I think it best if you
try to see your girlfriend
only at times when her beau
isn’t around. Don’t ask for
trouble by being with the
two of them. It will help if
you attempt to meet other
men who might spark a
flame. Don’t admit these
feelings to your friend or her
boyfriend. You’ll wind up in
double jeopardy if you do!

but to you of salvation, and
that of God.
Paul outlines what it
means for the Philippians to
emulate Christ.
I. They are to be
consistent. Paul’s faith is
reckoning on the possibility
of release from prison. Buf,
He says, whether I am with
you or not should make no
difference in your way of
living.
11. Paul expects the
Philippians to be steadfast.
They are not te be retreating
Christians who, when the
going gets rough, conceal or
at least play down their
Christianity. They are to
stand fast and unashamed in
any company.
111. The Philippian Church
is to be unified. Let the world
fight, quarrel, and hate-
Christians must be one.
IV. Paul desires for the
believers to be unconquer
able. These are days when it
is evident that Satan is
working overtime. Paul tells
us not to be afraid but to
trust, hope, and fight.

On November 20, 1776,
General Cornwallis crossed

and were landed with their

dragged the cannon up a

Cornwallis then marched
both divisions on Fort Lee a
