Original holiday
decorations add
to merriment!
For a shimmering ef
fect, swag long strips of
tinsel at the top of your
windows, over whatever
curtains or drapes are
already there. Add glis
tening Christmas tree
balls and you’ll have a
picture window that is
lovely inside and out.
For a festive indoor
window-sill box, fill a
long planter with ever
greens and tuck bright
tinsel flowers thickly
through the greens. You
might also want to stand
this Christmas garden on
a long book shelf.
Hang a silver metal
lettuce basket in some
unexpected corner of
your house, filled with
large and small balls of
colored yam accented
with gleaming Christmas
tree balls ... all silver
would be spectacular!
A simple and sophisti
cated table centerpiece
can be a conversation
piece when entertaining.
Fill a glass hurricane
chimney with cranber
ries, kumquats or crab
apples and top with a
tuft of graceful seasonal
greenery. Flanked by
graceful candles it is a
lovely sight. If you’re
lucky enough to have a
mantelpiece, this color
ful arrangement will look
charming on it as well.

Calling Colleen:
Don’t Make Waves
Unless Problem

BY COLLEEN DUDGEON
A couple of years ago I
dated this really super guy.
We went out for almost six
months and then he was
transferred
to another
area. We f Jafc
wrote each /fi
other letters
but that did
n’t last very y\'ol
long. I soon
started going out with this
other guy who I’ve been
dating for the past year or
so. We don’t have a serious
relationship like the one with
the guy who moved. It is
very casual and there are no
strings attached. Last week
I got a note from my old
boyfriend saying he was
being transferred back here
and he was anxious to pick
up where we left off. I could
n’t believe it. I am excited to
see him and catch up with
his news. I am certain things
could go very well between
us. But I don’t want to com
pletely break off with the
guy I’m dating now. He, too
is very good to me and it
would break his heart if we
didn’t see each other. How
can I go out with two men
and manage to keep all three
of us happy?
TOUCHY TRIANGLE
Dear Touchy:
Don’t be too sure that
things will just pick up
where they left off when the
man who’s been gone pops
back in town. It’s very dif
ficult to act like the past
two years never happened.
There are a lot of unan
swered questions here. Why
did you stop communicating
with him? If your relation
ship was that strong, a
switch in jobs shouldn’t have
completely ruined it. Aren’t
you being a bit presump
tuous in assuming that the
guy you’ve been going out
with now will just sit back
and allow you to carry on
May yours be merry and gay.
Our hearty holiday thanks
for your kind patronage.

with the old love without
questioning your relation
ship with him. You say there
are no strings involved, but
then you worry how things
will be when you’re dating
the other. Take it one step at
a time. Don’t anticipate
what will happen with who
or why. Also, it’s only fair to
tell the man you’re seeing
now that there will be
another man in your life.
What do you do when your
boyfriend starts to be inat
tentive? I’m deeply in love
with Roger, and we have
plans to get married. He’s
just the best! But it seems
like every time things are
wonderful between us, he’ll
get an urge to stop calling
me or stop coming over to
see me. It doesn’t usually
last more than three or four
days but I sure go through a
lot of tears when it happens.
I’m afraid to bring it up
when we’re together be
cause like I said he is as
gentle and understanding as
possible. What do you think
is making him do this to me?
For an example, we went
out for dinner one evening
last week and it was great.
It’s been almost a week
since I’ve heard from him. I
know he doesn’t do these
things to hurt me but I just
can’t see his reasoning.
HOT AND COLD
Dear Hot And Cold:
Better get your temper
atures regulated. Seems
like Roger is playing the old
fishing game. Reel them in
real tight and then let ’em
fly loose for awhile. Make
sure you’re not a temporary
catch. Ask him why he in
sists on playing this game.
It’s not indicative of a man
waiting to be married.

Organ Donors
Give Gift
Of Life
It’s the gift of vision. It
could be the gift of life. It is
the donation of your corneas,
your kidneys or other parts
of your body after death.
If the subject of donation of
organs for transplantation
after death is something you
have been thinking about,
you might be interested in a
new booklet prepared by the
Department of Health, Edu
cation and Welfare in
cooperation with the Ameri
can Medical Association. For
a free copy of Donation of
Bodies or Organs for Trans
plantation and Medical
Science, send a postcard to

ter, Dept. 556 E, Pueblo,

In our lifetime, we’ve seen
transplantation become a
medical reality. About 25
kinds of tissue and organs
are being used with increas
ing frequency for transplant
ation. But, one of the reasons
more can’t be done is the
shortage of enough suitable
organs and tissues from
human donors.
Each state and the District
they saw the young child with Mary His Mother,
the wise men knelt down and worshipped Him. They
opened their treasures and presented their gifts
of gold, frankincense and myrrh. As we recall the
miracle of Christmas, we offer praise and thanks.
May you be blessed with a joyous holiday.
Haisten Brothers, Incorporated
THURSDAY, DECEMBER 23, 197
of Columbia now has an
anatomical gift act which is
law. Basically the law
provides that any person at
least 18 or 21, depending on
the state, may donate all or
part of his or her body after
death for research, trans
plantation or placement in a
tissue bank.
If you decide you want to
donate your body for these
purposes, fill in and carry
with you at all times a
Uniform Donor Card. This is
a special card with your
name, birth date, and a
statement of your wishes.
You must sign it in the
presence of two witnesses.
You don’t need to and
shouldn’t send the card to
any other person or organiza
tion. And, if you change your
mind about being a donor,
you only need to tear up your
card.
You may also want to
mention your intention in
your will. (This would
become effective without
having to wait for the will to
go through probate.) If you
change your mind about
being a donor, you’ll also
want to remove it from your
will.

Organs for Transplantation

How Else
A father and his in
quisitive son were walking
through the park. Every few
steps, the youngster would
ask another question. “What
is lightening?” “Why is the
sky blue?” “What makes
trains run?” To each ques
tion, dad replied he didn’t
know. “Daddy,” the young
man continued, do you mind
if I ask you all these
questions?” “Not at all, son.
Keep right on asking. That’s
the only way you’ll learn
anything.”
