BITS ABOUT BLEACH
If you are hanging onto
the old ideas about bleach
(such as weakening fabrics,
fading colors, and breaking
down finishes) you may be
missing a great help with
your laundry problems.
Although all of these ideas
have been true at one time or
another, they no longer are.
For years bleach was used
primarily as a whitening
agent. Today it is much
more. It is also a cleaning
agent. Its primary function is
to aid detergents in the
removal of soil and stains on
all types of washable fabrics
including natural and synthe
tic fibers, special finishes
and colors, as well as whites.
It helps get out the dirt that
detergents alone may leave
in. When used in the laundry
with a detergent, bleach
reacts with soils and stains
and changes their chemical
structure, making them
easier to remove.
There are two categories of
bleach on the market
today-chlorine and non
chlorine. Each type is
available in liquid and
powder form.
There are several reasons
why bleach has become more
important than ever. One is
the growing use of low
phosphate detergents. Also
because homemakers today
often use lower wash water
temporalures clothes may be
less clean. Bleach, used with
do ci cent m warm or cold
water can help improve
cleanliness.
1)11) YOU KNOW THAT
Almost 90 percent of the
body's heat loss is at the
head. If the head is covered
up. the excess heat cannot
excape and goes to other
places, such as the hands and
lect.
Traditional flat billfolds
and reversible belts are
among the No. 1 sellers in
men's leather accessories.
Although the children’s
footwear industry is offering
a variety of casual and dress
styles for Spring ‘77, the
sneaker is predicted to
dominate the market with
60-80 percent of children’s
shoe sales.
...There will be greater
substitutions of manmade
fibers for cotton due to the
higher prices of cotton, and
also, due to the tight supply
of cotton.
...Wool prices will be
moderate. Price increases
are expected for polyester,
rayon, and acrylic staples.

As Chairman of the Motor

outspoken advocate of high

Griffin Double Murder May
Be Linked To Drug Traffic
The bodies of two Griffin
men have been recovered
from an abandoned Spalding
County well and two men
have been charged with their
murder, in a bizarre case
apparently related to traffic
in illegal drugs.
The Griffin Daily News of
Wednesday, January 12,
carried this account of the
double murder:
“Drugs from the word ‘go’,
both dealing and being
hopped up,” were involved in
the deaths of two Griffin men
according to Spalding Sheriff
Dwayne Gilbert. The bodies
were pulled from an aban
doned well off Walker’s Mill
road about 10:45 this morn
ing.
Randy Reeves, 26, and
Stanley Darsey, 19, ap
parently were shot and their
bodies thrown in the 42-foot
dry well.
Ronald Terry Fouts, 20, of
622 East Mclntosh road, and
Joseph Alfred “Jody” Gre

charged with murder. They
PACAA Holds
A.A. Seminar
January 25th
The Piedmont Area Com
munity Action Agency is
sponsoring an Affirmative
Action Seminar at the
Holiday Inn, Griffin, on
January 25.
The purpose of this
seminar is to provide
information relative to the
many aspects of affirmative
action in the public and
private section. A cross
section of distinguished
speakers from both the
public and private section
are scheduled to discuss
affirmative action and what
i' means. These speakers
include Earl Shinhosten,
Director of the Governor’s
office of Equal Employment
Committees of the House.
Smith’s quiet but forceful
legislative style will be
sorely missed in the General
Assembly. Recent polls of the
members of the House have
indicated him to be one of its
most liked and respected
members.
Relinquishing his seat to
Bill Jones of Jackson on
January 10 does not mean
that Rep. Smith will retire
from public service. He has
stated that he will stay
involved and “...will assist in
any capacity that will be
beneficial to the citizens of
Georgia.”
were being held in the
Spalding County jail.
They were arrested Tues
day afternoon around 2:30
p.m. at their homes.
The investigation first
began Monday afternoon
when Reeves' wife, Patsy,
returned home from work
and found her home at the
Ga. 16 and Dutchman road
intersection had been bur
glarized.
Blood, both in trail and in
pools, was found throughout
the house, in the living room,
a child’s bedroom and on the
back porch, lawmen said.
Darsey, a family friend,
had been living with the
Reeves for about six months
and when he and Reeves did
not return home from work
Monday night, a search was
started.
Sheriff Gilbert did not go
into details on how the
arrests came about but said
that six rifles taken from the
Reeves’ residence were
found wrapped in a quilt,
which also had been stolen
from the home, in a wooded

The death weapon was not
among them, as it was
thought to be a small caliber
pistol, he said.
Gilbert said that someone,
he did not disclose whether or
not it was one of the suspects,
told investigators where the
bodies were and went to the
spot with them last night.
The bodies were left in the
well Tuesday night, both as a
safety measure and for fear
of disturbing evidence in the
dark.
The scene was about a mile
north of Ga. 16 east, on
Walker’s Mill road in a
desolate wooded area cover

pines. The well was near a
chimney where a house once
stood and had an old square
wall made of rocks around it
about a foot high. It was
about 100 feet from the road.
The well was uncovered but a
wooden platform had been
thrown into the hole which
delayed recovery of the
bodies.”
