THURSDAY, JANUARY 20, 1977,
By
Dale Whiten
It was almost three years
ago that Barry McCoy of
Jackson saw a small,
shv-looking kitten in a pet
shop in Griffin. The way she
looked at him made Barry
know immediately he had to
have her.
Barry named the gray-and
black striped kitten Zelda,
after F. Scott Fitzgerald’s
wife, and after three years
Zelda is “like another
member of the family.”
She’s temperamental,
spoiled and seems fairly
confident she will get her
way in important situations,
such as the times she decides
she’s hungry.
Zelda likes her breakfast of
tuna and milk served about
6:30 and if the meowing and
scratching of the bed covers
prove futile in awaking
Barry, then he suddenly
hears, from another room,
Zelda’s dishes being rattled
and moved around. All the
alarms have been sounded
and Zelda’s persistence gets
her the meal.
She likes to entertain
herself and her audience by
playing with a string she
drags all over the house. And
if she’s feeling a little
lonesome or ignored, she will
take the string to a room
where she has an assured
audience.
"Playing with the string is
her favorite game regardless
of how many toys I buy her,”
Atlanta after having spent
about two months here with
her sister, Mrs. Madge
llolifield. Mrs. Emerson
McMichael assisted Miss
Kitchens in moving a large
number of items that she had
brought with her when she
came to be with Mrs.
Holifield during her inability
to care for herself.
Mrs. W. R. Smith, wife of
Rev. W. R. Smith, will
enter Coliseum Park Hos
pital in Macon on Thursday,
January 20th, for observation
and treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry
Hunter. Brian and Jennifer
of Buford were weekend
guests of Mr. and Mrs.
Thurmon Mullis and Billy.
Rev. and Mrs. R. W.
Jenkins and Mr. and Mrs.
Don Thurmon were dinner
guests on Tuesday night of
Mr. and Mrs. Tommie Grant,
Glenn and Wade.

PET of the WEEK
r -ll
Barry says.
A lot of the time Zelda gets
called by her nickname
“Pooh.” “Zelda” is used
primarily in cases when
punishment or a severe
reprimand is in order. Those
times usually occur when
Zelda has been trying out her
claws on a piece of furniture.
Barry says he bought Zelda
a scratching post, but she
didn’t use it because she was
already accustomed to using
be guest speaker for the
morning service. Everyone
is invited to attend.
Close Shave?
It is estimated that an
average man who shaves,
removes more than 27 feet of
whiskers from his face in the
course of a lifetime.

the furniture.
Zelda-or Pooh-prefers to
choose the times herself
when she will allow someone
to hold her. She doesn’t like
to ride in a car but seems
perturbed that she would
actually not be included on
outings and is always
obviously pleased when
Barry or Mr. and Mrs.
McCoy return.
