Weather Makes
Fire Problems
For County
Because of the dry and
windy weather, as many as
eight fires a day have been
reported to the Sheriff’s
Department during the past
week according to Butts
County Sheriff Billy Lever
et te.
Leverette urged all resi
dents of Butts County not to
burn anything outside and
not to burn any fields without
first consulting with the
forestry service.
Leverette said it’s likely
that most of the fires along
the roads were caused by
cigarettes being thrown from
cars, and he reminded
everyone to be more careful
in disposing of items which
can cause fires, such as
cigarettes.
Leverette added that the
fire departments from Jack
son. Jenkinsburg and Flo
villa have all participated in
controlling the fires and that
anyone needing to get in
touch with the Flovilla fire
department should call the
Butts County Sheriff s De
partment and it will dispatch
a unit to the scene of the fire.
