New Telephone
Directories To
Be Mailed
Soon Jackson homes and
businesses will begin receiv
ing the latest edition of one of
America’s best known publi
cations. It is the latest
telephone directory, which
features on its cover
Georgia’s game bird, the
bobwhite quail.
According to Southern Bell
Manager Charles Rogers
delivery of the directories
will begin on March 17 and is
expected to be completed by
March 21.
“The artist who did the
cover is Mrs. Lanford
Burnette, who has ties in both
Georgia and Alabama. The
bobwhite quail is not anew
subject to Mrs. Burnette,
even though she presently
lives on a cattle ranch in
Buffalo Gap, South Dakota.
She grew up in the South and
says that, since she spent so
much time here, quail
became one of her favorite
subjects,” Rogers said.
“The selection for the
cover of the bobwhite quail,
which is the official game
bird of Georgia, is appro
priate since Georgia has long
been hailed the ‘quail capital
of the world.' The bobwhite
quail is a genuine natural
resource, one that has been a
delight to natives of the state
and visitors alike,” he added.
“Approximately 4500
copies of the new Jackson'
telephone book will be
distributed,” Rogers said.
Rogers said that any
subscriber who does not
receive a directory by March
25 can arrange to receive one
by calling this number,
775-9001.
“You should start using
your new directory as soon as
you receive it,” Rogers
advised, “in order to avoid

BLUE SKY AND GOOD FRIENDS
Blue sky is all around
I cannot see it all at once,
My eyes behold the golden east
Where Sol comes up from couch of blue,
And soon I look on North and South
Where streaks of gray are shining through!
Good friends are all around
I cannot find them all at once,
My ears are fixed on hearts that beat
Where family ties are very strong
And soon I look on old and young
Where love is true and ever sweet!
