School Days
Be Extended
By One Hour
The school day will be
extended one hour in length
for 18 days, beginning March
30, according to J.M.L.
Comer, Supt. of the Butts
County Schools. The purpose
of the longer school day is to
make up three days lost to
the gas shortage in January.
Six days extended one hour
each day are required to
make up one school day.
Mr. Comer reported that
ten days are to be made up
with the remaining days
being made up Spring
Holidays, in-service days and
at the end of school. The last
day of school is June 2 for
students.
The school day will begin
30 minutes earlier and
continue 30 minutes later. By
school beginning 30 minutes
earlier, this amount of time
will have been made up by
the end of third period, which
will allow lunch to be served
at the regular time, which is
from 11:00 A.M. to 1 P.M.
School will begin at 7:50
A.M. and end at 3:40 P.M.,
Comer stated.
Inmate Is
Found Hanged
At Prison
According to Butts County
Coroner John Sherrell, an
inmate was found hanged in
his cell March 19 at the
Georgia Diagnostic and
Classification Center in Butts
County.
The man was identified as
David Morton, 44, of Syl
vania. Georgia.
Sherrell said the director of
the State Crime Lab, Dr.
Larry Howard, examined the
body and that an inquest will
be held in Jackson at a later
date to determine the cause
of death.
According, to Sherrell,
Thompson Funeral Home in
Sylvania is handling funeral
arrangements.

whose wife, Laurette, lives
on Route 5, Jackson, Ga.,
recently was promoted to,
Army Specialist Four while
serving with the lOlsb
Airborne Division at Ft.

Adult Jobs

Trail Area Employment and
Training Council approved
funding for additional slots in
the out-of-school work ex
perience project, sponsored
by Piedmont Area Com
munity Action Agency, Inc.
The out-of-school project is
designed to provide short
term work assignments for
adults in public or private
non-profit agencies, 16 years
of age and over, in an effort
to assist them in finding
permanent employment.
These new slots are
scheduled to begin on April

Atlanta’s Second Space
Theatre, located behind The
Academy Theatre at 3213
Roswell Road, is into its final
week of two new plays,
Monkey Palace and Phone

will end their current run on

The plays were authored
by Atlantans R. C. Bynum
