STARK NEWS By Mrs. B. A. Williamson A congenial group of members of the Telephone Pioneers Club had luncheon together at the telephone building in Griffin on Thursday. They were Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Nash, Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Jacobs, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Harris and Mrs. Willie Lee Burnett. They were joined by other pioneer members from across the state. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hoard and family of Tallahassee, Fla spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. Buck Hoard and Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd White, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy White, Kelley and Bart and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Banks of Barnes ville were guests Sunday evening of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Collins, Suzy and Dodie of Jackson for a delicious family dinner. Friends of Mr. John Cook are sorry to learn that he is a patient at Sylvan Grove Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Brady of Macon spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Morgan. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Nash, Timmy and Teresa of Stone Mountain were guest Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Nash. Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Burress were their daughter’s family, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Le Master, Laura and Leia, of Centerville, Ohio. Mrs. Addie Tate of Adrian, Michigan spent last week here with her sister, Mrs. Gladys Burford, and brother, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Foster. Mrs. Tate was accompanied by her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Clark and children. The Clark family went to Florida where they visited Disney Land and other places of interest. They returned on Thursday and together with Mrs. Tate left for their home in Michigan on that day. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Grant, Glenn and Wade attended a family gathering at the home of Mrs. Grant’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Bryan, in Forest Park, Sunday. The Easter Sunday dinner is an annual event of the children and grand children of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan. Mrs. Lillian Williamson spent the Easter week-end with Mr. and Mrs. James B. Williamson and Miss Jan Williamson in Macon and attended the Vineville Bap tist Church services on Sunday morning. Because of the large attendance the Easter Sunday service has been held at the Grand Opera House for the past six years. Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Strickland, Teresa, Jodie, and Dorie, and a grand baby of Ellenwood, and Mrs. Sam Standard, Chuck, Michael and Suzy of McDonough spent Sunday with Mr. Harold Standard and attend ed services at Macedonia Church on Sunday morning. Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Burress and Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Pafford visited and had lunch with the Pafford’s daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sammons, in Athens on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Troy Allen spent the weekend of March 3rd in Roanake, Alabama. On Sunday evening this week, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Allen were hosts to the family at an enjoyable cook-out at their home in Worthville. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Troy Allen, Mr. and Mrs. John Allen and Cheryl of Decatur, and Mr. and Mrs. Neal Allen and Jason. Miss Nellie singley has been on the sick list for several days. Friends hope to see her out again soon. Mr. and Mrs. Tommy McMichael, Gregg and Gail of Atlanta, and Mr. and Mrs. George Saunders and Lynn were guests for dinner Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Jim McMichael. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Cook had as guests on Easter Sunday their children, grand children and other visitors. The number included Mrs. Gene Stephens, of Covington, Mr. Leon Cook of Marietta, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Lunsford and Derek of Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Qualls of College Park, Mrs. Charles Holloway of Falls Church, Virginia, Mr. B. L. Cook of LaGrange and Miss Melissa Pulliam. It was the occasion of Melissa’s 16th birthday—so it was a double celebration —a birth day family and Easter party dinner. Guests of Mrs. Lena Bunch during the holiday weekend were Mr. Glenn Bunch of Carrollton, and Randy Cook who were weekend guests. THE JACKSON PROCRESS-ARCUS, JACKSON. GEORGIA Jackson s Track Team Places First In Area Meet April 5 A track meet featuring the teams from Jackson, Morgan and Putnam Counties and Monroe Area High School (Monroe, Georgia) was held April 5 at Jackson High with Jackson outscoring the com petition in both field and running events. Jackson’s total score for the meet was 102 12, l 2, and 58 of those points were scored in the running events. Morgan County was second with 70 overall points. Monroe Area had 56 points and Putnam County 25 1 2. In the field events, Jack son’s Wally Cawthon placed first in the shot put (45 feet) and in the discus competition (124’ 7”). Other dual win ners from Jackson were Randolph White who placed first in the running events of the 120 high hurdles (16.5) and the 330 intermediate hurdles (42.2) and Ernest Lawrence who was first in the mile run (4:53.7) and the two-mile run (11:11.7). Track coach Tommy Carmichael said that Law rence's performances set new ninth grade records in the mile and two-mile run. Another outstanding per formance was that of Leon Smith who vaulted 12’ 6” to tie the previous school record. Also in the pole vault competition, Carey Thaxton placed second with 12’ 6” and Doug Bristol, fifth, with 8’ 6”. In discus Jimmy Akins was third with 120’ 2”, Tony Stodghill, fourth, with 98’ 5” and Terry Smith, fifth, with 89’ 11”. In the long jump Jimmy Then on Sunday her family dinner party included Mr. and Mrs. Philip Bunch, Debra and Denise, Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Cook of Jackson, Mrs. Glenn Bunch of Carrol lton, Mrs. Jeanette Cook, Miss Pattie Bunch and Mr. Scott Courie of Carrollton. Mrs. Annie Taylor and Mrs. Annie Beal were guests for breakfast Easter morn ing of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Beal and family. Guests of Mrs. Annie Taylor for dinner on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor of Atlanta, Mrs. Charles Mayhue, Renee and Chuck of Gray and Mr. and Mrs. Jack McLees and Miss Dolores Cook. Mrs. Inez Moore of Jonesboro, visited on Thursday. Akins placed third with 19’ 3”, but the event was won by Monroe’s Tommy Malcolm who leaped 19’ ll” to take first place. Malcolm also won the high jump with 5’ 6” while Van Fletcher placed fourth with 5‘ 4”. Jimmy Akins placed first in the triple jump with 41’ 5' 2", and Randolph White was third with 40’ 10”. In the mile run, coming in behind Ernest Lawrence, were Tony Head, fourth, at 5:13 and Dan Wright, fifth, at 5:13.9. In addition to Randolph White, Leon Smith also placed in the 120 high hurdles, coming in at third place with 17.2. In the 880 run Tony Head placed third at 2:17.2 with the event being won by Morgan County’s T. Lowe who came in at 2:11. Willie Ward placed third in the 330 intermediate hurdles with 45 seconds after Jackson's Randolph White and Taylor of Monroe. THURSDAY, APRIL 14. 1977 11:20.2, and in the mile relay Jackson won first place with 3:42.2 and third place with 3:54.5. Jackson’s winning team in the mile relay consisted of Tony Head, Derrick Alexander, Charles Stewart and Randolph White. The team from Jackson placing third consisted of Charles McDaniels, Michael Upshaw, Leon Smith and Arthur Pve. The 100 yard dash was won by the Monroe Area High School with 10.3, and the 220 dash winner was Adams of Morgan County with 24.1.
