FLORIDA YOUTH CHOIR THRILLS CONGREGATION The musical stage for the local celebration of Easter was set on Maundy Thursday with the appearance at the Jackson Presbyterian Church of The Youth Choir of the Wallace Memorial Pres byterian Church, of Panama City, Florida. Norman Hair, as director, led the 40-member youth choir in a 45-minute tribute to the Easter victory entitled, “Because He Lives.” The audience was enthrall ed by the vocal artistry of the group and the disciplined direction of Mr. Hair. The Youth Choir members were guests of the local Presbyterian Church for dinner Thursday and break fast on Friday. They were housed at the Indian Springs State Park and in private homes. On Friday and Saturday they made a tour of Atlanta and Six Flags before returning home. Rev. Wade H. Ball, a former pastor of the Jackson and Fellowship Presbyterian Churches, is pastor of the Wallace Memorial Presby terian Church of Panama City. Rev. David Beville, pastor of the Jackson Presbyterian Church, was an assistant to Rev. Bell in Valdosta and was instrumental in having the choir visit Jackson. TIFT ALUMNAE TO MEET APRIL 15-16 An address by Dr. Frances Tarlton (Sissy) Farenthold, president of Wells College, Aurora, N.Y., will highlight Tift College Alumnae Week end on April 15-16. Dr. Farenthold will speak at 11 a m. on Saturday, April 16, in Rutland Student Center. She is a graduate of Vassar College and of the University of Texas law school. THE JACKSON PROGRESS-ARCUS, JACKSON, GEORGIA VIC A CLUB TOURED FACILITIES AT GRIFFIN TECH Last week the Jackson High VICA Club attended Griffin Tech to tour their facilities and offerings. Grif fin Tech provides Vocational Education to post-secondary level students who want to become specialized in cer tain trade skills. Some of the trade skills taught are: Auto body and Fender repair, Automobile Mechanics, Brick Masonry, Business Education. Carpentry, Data Processing, Drafting, Elec tronics Technology, Heating, Air Conditioning, Refrigera tion, Machine Shop, Mechan ical Technology, Power Sew ing, Practical Nursing, Radio and Television Servic ing, and Welding. CARTER FAMILY HAS GET-TOGETHER EASTER SUNDAY The family of Mrs. Elena Carter met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carter on Easter Sunday. Everyone brought a picnic style lunch which was served in the pool house. The bounteous supply of food was enjoyed immensely. In the afternoon the grandchildren enjoyed an Easter egg hunt in the front lawn of Mrs. Elena Carter. Present for this delightful occasion were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Carter, Lisa, Laurie and Wes Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry McLaurin and Cole, Mr. and Mrs. Timmy Moss, Mrs. Elena Carter, all of Jackson; Mr. and .Mrs. Earl Williams, Melissa, Susan and Stacy of Conyers. YOUTH DAY AT JENKINSBURG BAPTIST CHURCH A drama, “The Stone Congregation,” by Robert Don Hughes, will be present ed at Jenkinsburg Baptist Church Sunday, April 17, at 7:00 p.m., by the youth of Scott Boulevard Baptist Church, Decatur. John Payne will serve as youth pastor and will bring the morning message. Other young people will be partici pating in the day’s activities. You are cordially invited to attend these services by Rev. PERSONAL Mr. and Mrs. Dale Whiten and Lara motored to Calla way Gardens on Saturday where they enjoyed the beach and the beautiful flowers and grounds of the famous gardens. Mrs. Fred Caldwell visited several days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Martin Brad shaw, Jr. and Tripp in Rome. Mrs. Fred Caldwell spent Easter Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Caldwell and family in Monticello. Mrs. O. L. Holmes of New Orleans, La. will arrive Friday for an overnight visit with her sister, Mrs. Doyle Jones. Jr., before going to Athens for a visit with her mother, Mrs. L. F. Griffeth, and family. GRANT-CAMERON Linda Ann Grant, daughter of Juanita Grant and Talmadge A. Grant, both of Tampa, Florida, and Dwight Allen Cameron, son of Mr. and Mrs. James A. Cameron of Woodwick Court, Florida, were married Saturday, April 2nd, at Pine Crest Baptist Church. The bride is the grand daughter of Mrs. Mattie Lou Grant of Jackson. The groom is employed by Jim Quilin Chevrolet and the bride is an employee of Sherwood Medical Indust ries, Inc. The couple will make their home in Clearwater, Florida. PERSONAL Mrs. Mattie Lou Grant spent last week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gene Grant, in Tampa, Florida. Mrs. Grant went down for the wedding of her grandaughter, Linda Grant. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Grant returned Mrs. Grant to her home and spent a few days camping at High Falls before returning to their home in Tampa. Guests for Easter Sunday lunch at Mr. and Mrs. Marion Parker's were Mr. and Mrs. Keith Parker and Heather, Mrs. Maggie Bell Smith and Mrs. Mattie Lou Grant.
