Gordon Stages
The Music Man
On May 9-15
Tickets to Gordon Junior
College's production of “The
Music Man” on May 9-15 at
8:15 p.m. are now on sale at
the college.
Due to limited seating in
the Student Center audi
torium, all tickets must be
reserved at least 48 hours
prior to each performance.
Any tickets that have not
been reserved will be sold on
a first come-first serve basis.
General admission is $2.50.

“The Music Man” involves
the antics of Professor
Harold Hill, a salesman—
con-artist, as he attempts to
form a boys’ band in River
City. lowa. Featured char
acters in the play are Hill,
Marian Paroo, Marcellus
Washburn, and Mayor and
Mrs. Shinn. Famous Songs
from the Broadway play are
“Trouble,” “Pickalittle,”
"Seventy-Six Trombones,”
and “Till There Was You.”
Gordon’s cast is comprised
of over 25 students and two
local children. An orchestra
of amateur and professional
musicians will accompany
the cast on the musical
numbers. “The Music Man”
is Gordon's sixth major stage
musical to be directed by
Lanny McAlister, Chairman
of Gordon’s music depart
ment.

cil has authorized Piedmont
Area Community Action
Agency, Inc. to operate the
CETA Title 111 Summer
Youth Work Experience
Project for the Mclntosh
Trail Area. The total Sum
mer Project will be funded at
$742,734 and will serve
approximately 1,254 youths.
Applicants must be within
the ages of 14—21, and must
be residents of one of the
eight (8) Counties served.
The Work Experience
Project will run nine (9)
weeks, allowing a participant
to work 25 hours per week at
the rate of $2.30 per hour, for
a total summer wage of $517.
Students returning to College
or Vocational Schools will
work forty (40) hours per
week, for twelve (12) weeks,
for a total summer wage of
$1,104. All jobs will be with
private non-profit organiza
tions and public agencies.
The Butts County Project
will provide jobs for 80
youths. Applications for
these Summer Jobs will be
available at local High
Schools. Junior High Schools,
Community Service Center,
and the Department of
Labor. Griffin.
The initial deadline for
submitting these applica
tions is May 10.

role. Serve apple wedges

New legislation, known as
Act 181, makes former school
employees eligible for retire
ment benefits provided they
have 10 years of service
between July 1,1945 and June
30, 1970 and who are not
presently receiving retire
ment benefits.

SOUTHERN RAILWAY
HAS RECORD INCOME
Southern Railway Com
pany has reported net
consolidated income of
$27,578,000 for the first
quarter of 1977, the highest of
any quarter on record. Net
income increased by 24.9 per
cent over the $22,074,000
earned in the first quarter of
1976.
Earnings in the quarter
were equal to $1.82 per share
of common stock, versus
$1.45 per share in the 1976
quarter.
FISHING PROSPECTS
ARE BETTER LOCALLY
According to Ben Gunn,
fishing expert with the
Georgia Department of Na
tural Resources, fishing
should be good in Butts
County next week.
Gunn said that Jackson
Lake will be normal and
clear with fishing good for
bass using top water plugs,
excellent for bream and
shellcrackers using red wig
glers and crickets and slow
for crappie.

training cycle, trainees stud
ied general military subjects.

fields.
Included in their studies
were seamanship, close
order drill, naval history and
