Church of Jackson held a “Tom Thumb Wedding”, Sunday, May Ist. The wedding resembled a real one with the church very beautifully deco rated with flower baskets of yellow and white mums, glads, and other varieties, two candelabras with yellow candles, and an arch deco rated with ferns and yellow roses. The bride, Tawana Jester, wore a long, white polyester, empire-styled dress with embroidered texture and trimmed with delicate white lace. She wore a white bridal veil accented with a white satin bow, and carried a bouquet of white roses and nosegays. The maid of honor, Sandy Lawson, wore a long, mint green dress trimmed in delicate white lace and carried a yellow mum. The bridesmaids, Joni Lawson, Valerie Mclntyre, Tenise Marigne, Donna Bell, Linda Brooks, and LaTonya Price, also wore long, mint green dresses trimmed in white lace and each carried a yellow mum. The flower girls, Zip Head and Monica Grier, wore long, yellow dresses trimmed in white lace and carried yellow mums. The groom, Gary Weaver, wore a three-piece vested suit of beige. His best man, Seneica Allen, and ushers, Eric Lawson, Eric Harris, Antonio Weaver, Earl Head, Craig Head, and Ferdinand Berry, all wore three-piece vested suits of beige and blue. The mother of the bride, Cynthia Head, wore a long, yellow dress trimmed with white lace. The father of the bride was Terrell Head, who dressed like the groom and ushers. Anthony Lawson was the minister, and wore a white robe. A reception followed the wedding. The arrangements for the wedding were made by Mrs. Irene Lawson,Mrs. Gwen dolyn Weaver, Mrs. Evelyn Roberts, and Mrs. Katherine Weaver. They were assisted by Mss. Michelle Weaver, Carrie Webb, Diane Law rence, and Vanessa Head. Atlanta Group Plays Here On May 16 The Atlanta Children’s Theatre will present their current original production, “Noah and the Great Auk”, at the Jackson High Audito rium on Monday, May 16th. There will be two perform ances, at 10:00 A.M. and 1:30 P.M. The play was written by ACT’s 26-year-old company manager, Bix Doughty. While the show is set on the ark. the message of the play is endangered species. Dur ing its Atlanta run the unusual show drew a lot of attention from conservation ists and environmentalists. A team from the Department of the Interior's Fish and Wildlife division videotaped • he production for considera tion as an educational tool. Much of the dialogue is written in verse which Doughty describes as a “Mix of Shakespeare’s favorite iambic pentameter and children’s favorite, Dr. Seuss’ sing-songy lyrical style,” Directing the production will be Charley Helms. Program For Handicapped Be Reviewed The Butts County Board of Education has completed its proposed Annual Program Plan underlie Education of the Handicapped Act, as amended by Public Law 94-142, The Education For all Handicapped Children Act of 1975. It is a requirement of the law to submit a Program Plan on a yearly basis to the State Department of Educa tion and to the U. S. Office of Education. The purpose of this law is to assure that all handicapp ed children have available to them by September 1, 1978 a free appropriate public edu cation which emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs, to assure that the rights of handicapp ed children and their parents or guardians are protected, to assist states and localities to provide for the education of all handicapped children, and to assess and assure the effectiveness of efforts to educate handicapped child ren.
